We have a 2006 Odyssey and love the van, but hate those pit stops on road trips. It doesn't bother me around town; but we sold a Grand Cherokee for this van because it was rated in the high 20's (I forget now). I've changed my driving style and our cargo and it yields some results.

The Odyssey, and every other smaller engine, has a greater percentage loss with heavier loads. So if you've packed 8 adults in the van don't expect good fuel economy. We recently made a trip from the mountains (so our elevation loss pretty much made the whole trip down hill) with 4 adults and 2 children and we got 22 mpg. I was pleasantly surprised but I don't know if driving 60-65mph was worth the kids asking "are we there yet". =)

In summary, you can expect just over 20 if you're driving slow and are mindful of the contents of your van.

A 2000 Honday Odyssey is an interference engine. This means that that if the piston and the valves are not in proper timing (for example when the timing belt breaks) there is a possibility that the pistons will hit the valves and cause damage because they have the potential to occupy the same space at the same time (i.e. INTERFER with each other). On these types of engines since engine damage is very likely in the event of timing belt failure, it is HIGHLY recommended that they be changed at the recommended interval.

the radio in your van has a anti-theft code that is needed to restart the radio when it looses power, most times(durning pre-delivery inspection) there is a sticker installed in the glove box with the code and\or serial number on it. The sticker is about one inch long by a half inch wide. the code will be 5 digits and the serial number will be 8. If the sticker is not there you will need to go to a Honda dealership were they can hold a group of buttons on the radio and get it to display the serial number which they can then use to get the radio code from Honda's Dealer only web site.

I have a 2001 Frontier and suspect they are similar. Jack up the front side you will work on 1st. Recommend placing a jack stand under the frame once jacked up for safety. Remove tire. Remove the disc brake pad housing by removing the 2 bolts holding it on (these are on the inside part of the wheel well). Ensure that the housing does not hang by the brake fluid hose as it will damage it, set the housing on top of the ball joint assembly if you need to set it down. Once off, the pads will slide out of the housing. Take and remove the brake fluid resevoiur cap (this allows the brake fluid in the system to flow back up through the system and into the resevoiur). Use wide pliars or C-clamps to depress the pistons in the pad housing back into the housing. This will cause brake fluid to overflow out of the resevoiur. Apply disc brake quiet (this reduces squeaking) between the new pads (side that does not touch the rotor) and shims. Allow to set about 10 minutes. Slide the new pads into position. Place housing back over the rotor and reinstall the 2 bolts. Replace tire and remove the jack stand and jack. Repeat on the other side. Once finished replace the resevoiur cap. Pads are self adjusting, just start the vehicle and depress the brake pedal a few times. You should be good to go

Great detailed answer! Just a couple hints to make it easier.

- if you do not top your brake fluid it will not overflow. if you do not have fluid leaks it is time to change pads if the "BRAKE" light comes on and stays on.

- if you only remove the bottom caliper bolt the unit will swing up for easy access and prevents possible damage to the brake line.

If it's anything like the 1999 model, there are a series of push clips underneath and 2 screws, 1 on each side - accessed via the wheel well. First you will need to remove the back cover using a coin or anything that will fit into the slot. Once it is open, remove the old battery and replace with a new battery. You will then need to place the battery cover back on using the coin again.

just plug in the ipd to the truck open lever. Then attach the split hook to the ground wire which runs from behind the in built stereo. Viola !! The movie runs wild !!

For some strange reason Honda has the Fuel Filter on the INSIDE of the fuel tank. That is what the Honda dealership told me when I asked where the Fuel Filter was located on my 1999 Odyssey - I think that's dumb. It's obviously cheaper to replace a fuel filter that is mounted on the outside of a fuel tank 'cause it only takes a minute or two, maybe three....or four.....

So when the filter get's clogged the fuel pump will die, you'll end up paying big bucks for towing, parts, labor & taxes. I wonder how much it is for a Honda Fuel Pump? Probably $450+.

The 2009 Honda Odyssey is a gas-powered vehicle.

For 2008 models, the oil filter is in the left aft cargo compartment on the subfloor. Open the cargo compartment behind the third seat, look on the left side, and there will be a filter the size of a Campbell's soup can there. Use an oil filter wrench, or your bare hands, to remove it. Recommend you fill the new filter with oil before you replace it so that the engine is not starved for oil in the 10 seconds after you start it up after the oil change.

It's on bottom of the navigation DVD unit under the seat. Unfortunately you have to remove the whole unit to view it. Honda will charge about $60 to remove it.
