Either the brake light switch has gone bad, or the rubber piece that hits the switch has fallen out (most likely). If you look under your dash, on the brake pedal arm, you should see a switch behind it. There's a hole in front of this switch, in the arm, that normally has a rubber piece in it. This rubber piece commonly falls out as the cars get old - if it's fallen out, you could try wrapping electrical tape around the arm to cover up the hole. Not terribly descriptive, but it's the best I can do. If the rubber piece is still there, the switch is most likely at fault.

One reason may be the switch, it's located between the console and the steering wheel. It has a picture of a light bulb on it or above it. Try putting into the down postion. This should make the lights retract after turning them all the way off and not leaving the park lights on.
