It is located on passenger side, below the dashboard, under the glove box comparment, You'll see a kind of cylinder with 3 bolts and 1 black and 1 red wire, going upside. You'll have to pull the bolts out, then disconect the blower motor from electrical connector, pull electrical plug a little bit with your finger to pull the other side out, then take the blower motor out from vehicle, once you got it, you will have to disconnect the clip located right on the center of the filter attached to the blower motor, then you will have to pull carefully the filter out of the motor with a screwdriver, pry with care and slowly, you could stick the screwdriver inside the motor, just below the filter and pull carefully, then you have to go to buy a new motor, clean the filter if it is black , mine was it, and push the filter forward carefully to your new motor, attach the clip, connect the bolts (this is the hardest part) and plug the electrical connection and test your fan for operation,

Maybe the computer,is happening with my 98,Fuel system ok ,batt ok.

Just a plain multiviscosity oil will be fine as long as you change it every 3000 miles or 6 months along with the filter. I don't personally believe that the "high milage oils" are any better than the rest. I DO absolutely believe that regular lube, oil, and filter changes make a big difference.

Most of them (and I emphasise most of them) are located next to the starter relay which is just behind the battery. They are the black-coloured "lumps" in the wires just after the wires leave the large bolt on the relay. There may be one or two other ones close by.

The Crankshaft Position Sensor is attached to the bellhousing.The CPS detects teeth on the flyweel as thay pass the sensor during engine operation and thus provides the computer with info concerning engine speed and crankshaft angle. Hope this helps.

When Professor Johanissburg was discovered to have made this all up in an attempt to impress his Argentinian mistress, Chrysler engineers, in their wisdom, dropped the additional 02 sensor and concentrated their efforts once again on making the air conditioning system more convoluted. Changing a Jeep Cherokee(XJ) from an automatic to a manual transmission should be relatively simple in comparison to conversions for other models where manufactures drastically change the design of their vehicles based on the type of transmissions installed. Not to mention most car models change and redesign the exterior, interior, and engine multiple times over the course of the model's lives. Not the Cherokee, the infamous simplicity and reliability of the Cherokee is ultimately due to the bullet proof AMC 258cid in-line-six cylinder engine which inspired its relatively unchanged and universal design characteristics that are reflected throughout it's seventeen years of production in the U.S; and twenty-one years in China. Based on this engineering concept, it is plausible to purchase, or scrap the parts needed from one of the thousands of dying Cherokees out there, and directly swap them out. The general list of parts would include the clutch pedal assembly, shifter, appropriate electronic connectors, transfer-case(for four wheel drive applications), drive shaft(s), transmission, cross-member, and of course your drug of choice(alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, and/or THC) to assist with research and installation. I must also add that some conversions may require you to swap or add computer components. The main cost of the conversion would be the transmission, transfer case, computer parts, and most importantly your time; not to forget researching and picking up parts. Even though this project would be relatively simple and fun for the mechanically inclined, based on the abundance of Cherokees on the market, it's extreme reliability, and again it's universal design, I would be be cautious of reality checking witches(wives, girlfriends, and mothers) who may argue that it's more reasonable to purchase a used Cherokee equipped with a manual transmission installed from the factory.

remove the airbox and access the serp belt tension bolts. loosen the serp belt completely, draw a diagram on how it goes on though. then drain the radiator fluid by turning the petcock open on the bottom passenger side of the radiator. use a bucket. disconnect water pump hose (lower radiator hose) loosen bolts and remove the water pump, lower radiator hose connects to it.

clean the gasket off the engine block real well.

take the pulley off the old pump and use it on the new one and use loctite on the screws so it don't come off.

on the new gasket apply lightly a coating of gasket sealer or rtv and place it on the engine, line up the holes. line up the new pump and use fingers and thread the screws in making sure you don't cross the threads.

snug down bolts gently.

- reattach the hoses- reattach the serp belt- snug it down (airbox side)- make sure draincock is closed- refill fluids- check for leaks

all is done. go driving!

i once drove from ensenada baja to my home in redwood city on a bad water pump. it was squealing really loud but as Cherokees go, the 4.0 motors are bulletproof. i just swapped out pumps theday after and it was like new again. that was about 1200 miles RT on a bad pump!

Generally speaking the crankshaft is located deep within the engine. The pistons are connected to the crankshaft and it is the device that turns the up and down motion of the pistons into a horizontal motion that drives the transmission and in turn the drive shafts that turn the wheels. If you ever have an opportunity to see your crankshaft that means your engine has been torn completely apart for a major overhaul.

On my 2000 I did it last year with a pair of vice grips and small brass home made mallet to pull apart and then tap back together the male to the female. NO LEAKS AFTERWARDS...was gonna cut it like the autozone dumbazz said and put one of those little clamps but just be careful pulling apart & they will snap back tight. On my 1997 model I had the same thing. The only tool required is your fingers!! Move xmission hose FWD or AFT with one hand and pinch the Q/D device with your fingers.

The most common reason for the XJ Cherokee to turn over and not start running is a faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) on the transmission bell housing. Search the Internet or some of the Jeep specific forums, there are instructions for testing the CPS.
