If you got an external tach gauge at an auto store like i did, it should have four wires to be hooked up: a red, black, white and green one. Your suppose to hook the red up to the proper voltage fuse and then ground the black one on the frame or body of the car but im too lazy so i just ran them straight to the battery; not the most professional way but it hasn't drained my battery yet and it works just fine. the white wire is for the light(if your tach has one); i hooked it of to the foglight switch so it lights up whenever i turn the lights on(even if the foglights are turned of if you hook the wire into the left side). the green wire is the tach gauge wire. the ignition coil should have a "tach test" outlet which is basically for mechanics but i put the wire on it and put the cover back over it to hold it in place and everything worked as it should. ONCE AGAIN, this is not the professional method to do it, i didnt use any proper fuses or splices so if your looking for a pristine setup find another method or get it installed the next time your in a shop, but this works just as well.

TECHNICALY ALL OF IT CAN BE REMOVED. LEAGALY NONE OF IT CAN BE REMOVED. IT DEPENDS IN HOW STRINGENT YOUR STATES EMISSIONS LAWS ARE AND IF THEY ARE INFORCED. ALL THE EMISSIONS EQUIPMENT IN YOU RIG WERE PUT THERE TO MAKE IT COMPLIANT WITH ETHER STATE OF CALIFORNIA EMMISIONS LAWS, OR FEDERAL EMMISIONS LAWS.

Detach negative battery terminal.

Disconnect large cable from the terminal on the starter motor and solenoid terminal connections.

Remove starter/solenoid mounting bolts (top and bottom).

Separate the assembly from the transmission bellhousing.

Detach and remove starter from engine.

Installation is the reverse.

Also, you might need to jack up the truck and put it on jack stands and turn the wheels to one side to get good access.

It is not a direct swap. They are not the same engine. The Jeep is an old AMC engine, the other is Chrysler.

It is under the dash, on the driver side.

1. Remove oil filter. 2. Remove the housing that the oil filter screws into- about 6 bolts (7/16). 3. Slide out gears (two). Inspect face of housing for wear- it will look like a set of scratches from the gears. If really scratched, sand down or replace with new or install a mid-plate. Also check pressure relief spring to make sure it is set properly. Reinstall: 1. slide the gears in proper position, 2. check proper clearance of gears in relation to housing, 3, pack the entire housing with petroleum jelly making sure it comes out the in/out ports so you will prime at start up. 4. Bolt back up 5. Fill oil filter with oil 6. Start her up

either the vacuum hose came off the selector switch or the nipple rotted off the air motor on the front differential.

the dash bezel is held in place with clips. you will need to carefully pull or pry the bezel loose and work your way around it.

That will depend greatly on the condition. It could be scrap metal price, $200, or many thousands of dollars if mint condition.

The vehicle must first be in neutral, starting from all the way forward high range 4 wheel drive will be one position back

The thermostat could be stuck closed. the heater core could also be plugged or the door closes when you use ac and opens when you use the heater may not operate.

if you can't find it in the car it in on the dash behind the passenger door. open the passenger door and look below the air vent that defrosts the window and you'll see a finger hole, that's it. if your looking for one to put just search the junk yards, those don't get taken very often.

No. Wrong bolt pattern distance. However, a 6 lug wheel from a Ford truck should fit.

There are 2 fuses,one for the key switch and that is a silver circuit breaker in the fuse box which also controls the power seats and door locks.The other is a regular fus for the power windows

You first have to lower the rear window. If the switches don't work you need to remove the carpet covering the tail gate then remove the metal cover from the tail gate. You will need to reach inside and disconnect the window from the arms that raise it so that it can be lowered. once it is lowered you should be able to open the tail gate.

That's all I can think of offhand...

what engine do you have? if it is a 360 it is located on the thermostat housing.

Is your timing 180 out?

Is your distributor set correctly? Try turning it slightly either direction to see if it is off due to the old timing.

Be sure not to run the new starter very long. It will get hot and burn up. let it cool down between uses. there is no use burning up a new starter.

Also check all your starter wires to be sure they are connected and not broken. is fire getting to the distributor? check your connections to it.

It is possible for a 1989 Jeep to leak coolant from the surge tank if the vehicle is overheating. It is also possible that the surge tank has a crack in it.

You would be happiest if you just kept with the 4.0 you have in it now. If the engine is tired, look into getting one of the 4.0 based stroker engines for big power gains. It would keep things simple and you wouldn't have any cooling, fuel, exhaust, wiring changes at all...
