Kia Optima

Go to advance auto and get some brake pads for the rear wheels on the 2004 Kia Optima. Also get two Break Lubricant blister packs. You will need a 14mm Wrench and a 6 inch C-clamp./

The Rear Brakes on a 2004 Kia Optima are Dsic brakes. You have to break the lug nut loose, then jack the tire up thaty you are working on. Remove the lug nuts, then the wheel cover and wheel.

Fit the C-clamp over the brake assembly to catch the outer pad and a clear spot on the back of the caliper. Tighten the c-clamp to compress the calipers piston back into itself.

Remove the 2 bolts that are on the upper back of the caliper. Slip the caliper off.

Pry the old brake pads out of the assembly

Apply Brake lubricant generously to the steel side of the new outer pad., Install the outer pad in the brake assembly.

Apply brake lubricant generously to the back of the inside pad(Has the squealer tab). Remove the shim from the back of the old inside pad and mount it on the back of the new Inside pad. Apply Brake Lubricant to the outside of the shim. Install the inside pad.

You may need to compress the caliper cylinder more before slipping it over the pads. Do so and install the 2 bolts to hold it in place.

Put the wheel , hub cap on, then Lug nuts. Snug up all four lug nuts. Lower the vehicle. Tighten all the lug nuts and test the vehicle out.

I have always used regular unleaded in my 2001 Optima SE V6. At about 94,000 miles it developed a little bit of a knock upon brisk acceleration... the kind of a knock that makes you think you should use premium fuel. Instead of paying more for gas, I checked the spark plugs. Sure enough, the platinum plugs were quite worn. They were the originals, and all three of the back (firewall side) were bad. After a new set of plugs the knock went away, and I continue to use only regular unleaded fuel. FYI: This vehicle does not use a knock sensor. Premium fuel is not reccomended. S. McDonald

if it is anything like my 2002 Kia Optima V6. I had to remove the axle shaft remove the upper motor mount and then put a jack under the engine and raise it about an inch. this gave me enough room to remove the alternater. If you are not handy working on cars I suggest you find a good kia repair facility and let them do it. Because you have to tear the whole suspension apart.

When the cylinder head bolts on the Kia 2.o DOHC FE3 engine are tightened in the correct sequence and in 3 steps up to 64 ft/lbs,,,, do you stop there or do you tighten them a further 60-65 or up to 90 degrees.. ? I still have oil ssepage if I stop at 64 ft/lbs and anew head and new gasket as well as new head bolts have been fitted ! A complete AJUSA gasket set was used in the rebuild..

My Kia Optima 2004 has the filter inside the gas tank. Behind the rear seats, when you fold them forward, you will see an opening to the fuel pump.

I'm actually getting mine fixed too, my mechanic is charging me 90 a side, but I heard some mechanics charge as much as 120-150 a side. Good luck

YES! This just starting happening to my 2007 kia optima with 20k. I have noticed the trunk popped erroneously , but I thought that it was just the button being overly sensitive and being triggered in my pocket. THEN, my dome light turns on and never turns off. The off button will not even turn it off! I am taking it in to kia on monday and post an update. If you find anything out before that please let me know.
