What are the limitations of a Middle Age knight?
They could not go anywhere their horses could not go. They got bogged down in soft ground, especially marshy land. The horses could be disabled by caltrops or arrows, and they often would refuse to charge into areas where they felt unsure about their footing or obstacles. Once a horse was disabled, a knight could find himself cut off and unable to retreat quickly.
They could not swim, which meant that if they had their backs to a river, they were trapped.
Arrows could go through armor. This was true of arrows from longbows and from crossbows. The English longbows were much more effective than crossbows, because their rate of fire was a multiple of that of the crossbow, and they are said to have had much greater range. The result was that huge numbers of knights were killed by archers at such battles as the battle of Agincourt. Archers with long bows were relatively easy to equip, but they required years of training because of the strength needed to shoot the bow.
Knights were expensive to equip and maintain, both in wars and in peace. Their presence in an army meant large numbers of people had to be there to care for horses, armor, and the knights. Food had to be provided for all these people. This was a logistical consideration of some consequence.

All Blue Templar members have taken an Oath to protect and defend not only the Constitution of the United States, but to protect the honest, innocent true believers from those who would do them harm. We are well aware that the criminal justice system in America has nothing to do with what is "right" versus what is "wrong" and oftentimes it does not punish the evil doers. With this in mind, we are prepared to fulfill the oath we swore to defend the country against all enemies, both foreign and domestic, so help us God.

Is it St. Bernard who was instrumental in developing the rule of the order and sending two of the original knights to Jerusalem? Could Abbot Gondemar and Rossal be considered among the first? It is safe to say that Hugues de Payens may be considered the first "official" Templar as he was the first Master of the order when recognized by the Pope. But who was the "first" Templar is a bit more subjective.
1117: St. Bernard joins Abbot Gondemar and Rossal (who become two of the original nine Templar Knights) whom he had sent for June 1113, in order to protect the "Great Secret."

All told nine noble gentlemen formed a holy brotherhood in arms, and entered into a solemn compact to aid one another in clearing the highways, and in protecting the pilgrims through the passes and defiles of the mountains, to the Holy City.
In 1118 Baldwin II, King of Jerusalem, granted them a place of habitation within the sacred enclosure on the temple Mount.
1127 (1st Sunday in Advent): Saint Bernard ordains Hugo of Payens as first Grand Master of the Templar Order.
In 1128, they received rules and regulations for their governance from the Pope, which had been expressly arranged for them by St. Bernard.

Did the Knights Templars blackmail the Pope with the true meaning of the Bible?
Given that the victors write history and the catholic church pretty much pwned the templars so hard that it could be considered an epic headshot, it would be impossible to know the truth.
A better question would be; What is the "True Meaning" of a book that had multiple authors with conflicting stories and none of it yet verified by science?
Roman Catholic AnswerOf course not, the Pope is Christ's Vicar on earth and the earthly head of the Church. It was the Church which wrote the Bible and approved it, as we have it today, in councils in the fourth and fifth century - and approved by the Popes. The Knights Templars were a religious order of the Church approved by the Popes and under the Rule of St. Benedict. Problems arose, there was an investigation by commissions in the Pope's name and the Templars were suppressed. Their property was given to other Knight Orders who were not under suspicion. The question above is an example of rewriting history gone wild. When did the Knights Templer start to protect pilgrims in the Holy Land?
Protection of all poor and weary pilgrims travelling from Europe to the Promised Land occurred after the First Crusade in the 11th century. Hughes de Payen, a Frankish knight, petitioned Bernard of Clairveaux to ask the Pope to create a military order. Originally it consisted of nine knights who took a pledge to give up their families and their wealth in order to become warrior monks. Their code was written by Bernard who modelled it after the Cistercian order's. Patrols around Jerusalem and the rest of Palestine were made by two knights at a time. Originally the name of the order was The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon.
