Why are your eyes red in pictures?
You are actually seeing images of the retina, the layer of cells at the back of the eye. There are many blood vessels in that part of the eye, as well as a very high concentration of light receptor cells.
You will note that in virtually every photo in which you see 'red eye', the photographer used a flash. The flash was probably on the camera, making it possible for light from the flash to make a reasonably direct trip from flash to retina and back to the camera. The need for the flash suggests that the ambient light level is low enough for the subjects' irises to be open. The flash and exposure happen so quickly that the iris doesn't have time to adjust by closing a little. The result is the slightly creepy effect that we call red eye.
This is why most cameras today have a pre-flash option for photos of people and/or animals. A few short bursts of light cause a person's irises to close a little, and red eye is almost always avoided. If this option is not available with your camera, then placing the flash at an angle, away from the camera, may also help reduce red eye. The problem can also be fixed easily with most photo editing software packages.
Does medicare cover any of lasik surgery?
No, medicare does not cover Lasik surgery. This is because it is considered a cosmetic procedure due to the fact that you can continue to wear glasses and be okay. Medicare does not cover any surgery that is not medically necessary.
no
If you ask 10 different doctors you will probably get 5 different answers to that question. Therefore keep in mind that this answer is personal and based on 15 years experience in LASIK technology, working as a LASIK consultant, and from one of the only doctors who ever developed a laser specifically for LASIK and had it FDA approved and then used it to treat thousands of patients (The Dishler Excimer Laser).
Currently I believe that the best excimer laser in the world is the MEL 80 made by Carl Zeiss Meditec. The reasons for this are many but in summary are based on three factors. First and most importantly are the results. As a clinical investigator for this company, and with using the product post approval it has produced the best clinical results (% of patients who see 20/20) of any laser I am familiar with. Second, it works by producing a custom optimized ablation pattern, which means it does not change the natural prolate shape of the eye as much as other laser systems which gives more natural vision and less distortions and greater satisfaction. Third, it is a robust system that is easy to calibrate, has dual eye trackers, and many features that make it technologically superior. My second favorite laser is the Wavelight Allegretto, which was designed by engineers/scientists who originally worked at Zeiss, and incorporates many of the same features. This laser is currently approved for a wider range of indications in the US market which is desirable.
The other part of LASIK is making the flap, and I believe that a femtosecond laser is essential for this critical part of the procedure. Many centers still use mechanical microkeratomes, but this is the part of the procedure where complications can occur and are much less likely with femtosecond technology. The original femtolaser is the Intralase and this is a reliable and good piece of equipment. Even better is a femtosecond laser also made by Zeiss called the VisuMax. The VisuMax runs at much lower energy, at a higher treatment rate, and treats the natural curvature of the eye rather than flattening it like most of the other femtolasers do. It has many other technological advances as well.
Therefore, my first choice is the combined workstation of the VisuMax and the Mel80 for LASIK and my second choice would be the Intralase and Allegretto combination.
Other lasers utilize older "broad beam" technology which has been improved but are not as advanced as the types described in this answer. Many doctors are very satisfied with their results, but there has been a trend in the last few years towards the types of systems described here.
My Answer
Traditional Lasik that uses handheld cutting tool (called microkeratome) is still popular among Lasik surgeons and continues to help thousands of people improve their eyesight. However, more sophisticated eye surgeons prefer using a special femtosecond laser to create corneal flaps during blade free Lasik (IntraLasik) due to the proved higher precision of this new technology. This modern technology allows the surgeon to analyze and get a detailed map of patient's eye optical system. My main point is that your surgeon's experience and skill level will be the most significant factors influencing your surgery outcome.
Can people die during a laser eye operation?
With any procedure there is always a chance of death. However laser eye operations are meant to be minimally invasive and thus carry a low risk factor as compared to other treatments.
Is lasik eye surgery an inpatient or outpatient surgery?
Lasik eye surgery is considered an outpatient surgery because the patient is allowed to go home on the exact same day. You will still have to treat your eyes with drops and avoid to much light but you will get to go home.
What are the main reasons why people are choosing to have lazer eye surgery?
The main reason is vanity. LASER (to spell it correctly !) eye surgery correct most vision problems, and is a long-lasting procedure. It's also relatively inexpensive. Costing around £400 per eye - the results are almost instant, and you don't need to bother replacing lost or broken spectacles !
Are there any side effects to Lasek eye surgery?
"The most common side effect to Lasik eye surgery is discomfort for the first 24 to 48 hours. Other possible side effects are glare, seeing halo around images, difficulty driving at night, fluctuating vision, and dry eyes."
The adjusters for each company will complete an independent investigation, if there is still no way to establish fault it will either be mutually denied, settled on a 50/50 basis, or sent to arbitration.
What does the diagnostic exam of an eye surgery candidate include?
The diagnostic exam should include measurement of visual acuity under both low and high illumination, biomicroscopy with pupillary dilation, stereoscopic fundus examination with pupillary dilation.
How likely is it for a flap to move several months after lasik eye surgery?
It is extremely unlikely for the flap to move several months after LASIK surgery, but it is possible to dislodge it with severe trauma. In the last 15 years and about 50,000 LASIK cases we have only seen a small handful of cases with late flap dislocation. These were almost always the result of severe trauma such as a tree branch directly contacting the cornea, and would have caused some degree of injury. Fortunately, we have been able to repair these cases successfully with little or not permanent loss of vision.
It is for this reason that the military and some law enforcement branches had required PRK or surface treatment rather than LASIK due to potential combat situation. It is an indication of how rare these occurrences are that LASIK is now accepted by most all of the categories previously mentioned.
We counsel all LASIK patients to wear eye protection for a minimum of six months, and it is not a bad idea for everyone to do this when there could be damage of the eye. It takes a special kind of trauma to dislodge a well healed LASIK flap, and if the vision does change after a trauma, it is best to have the eye checked right away.

How is a laser iridectomy done?
To perform a laser iridotomy, the ophthalmologist uses a laser, usually an argon or an Nd:YAG laser, to burn a small hole into the iris to relieve fluid pressure behind the iris. If the procedure is an iridectomy, the laser is used to remove.
People have eyes because they have eyes. There is not a reason. But you should take care of them and watch out for them. They are like your babies. They need food and water, they need to poop, sleep and pee. Here is some more information to help! ~ "Maybe we have eyes because if we didn't, there would be no need for beauty, seeing we cant see it. There would be no light, only darkness. Maybe we have eyes not just cause we need them to function, because we don't. Blind people don't need them to function, yes of course its and added bonus. But maybe we were given eyes for the sole purpose of seeing the world and what was created.
Not cause we need them. But because they are just nice to have. We don't need eyes, but we have them anyway. We don't need a lot of things in life to live, yet we have them. Maybe we have eyes just cause we can." ~ Spaxol to Razia

Can a person that was born blind move their eyes to the direction of a noise?
No. A person that hears a noise will generally move their whole head towards the noise or look upward (like Stevie Wonder) because they have no control of the eyeballs.
