There are many types of Latino music, depending from what region of Latin America you are from. White and Black Cubans in the Caribbean helped influence salsa, and Puerto Rican music is merengue. Mexicans of Indian and Spanish heritage, mixed rhythms that have a strange circus like sound, but it is called banda and cumbia . Dominicans do music like Bachata, which also has Spanish and black influence. A new trend in music is reggaeton, which is like rap and reggae mixed. This has become extremely popular. They also have other genre of music like we do, but in Spanish. Such varying types of music consists of cultural and racial influences.

What are the most common lyrics of Mexican folk song 'La Cucaracha'?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I learned two different versions of it, one is not so nice, the other is better. Here they are:

La cucaracha, la cucaracha,

Ya no puede caminar.

Porque no tiene, porque le falta,

La marijuana que fumar.

And the nicer one:

La cucaracha, la cucaracha,

Ya no puede caminar,

Porque no tiene, porque le faltan

Las dos patitas de atrás.

The first one says he can't walk because he has no marijuana (as if that makes any sense!) and the second one says he can't walk because he doesn't have two back feet. LOL

------

There are hundreds of verses to this traditional Mexican Folk song. The use of Marijuana in the quoted stanza is referring to its pain-killing and... what's the word? "forgetting" properties. In other words, the soldier is weary and footsore, but smoking marijuana makes his (or in some versions, her) feet stop hurting and makes them forget their troubles--they can keep right on marching (or dancing or whatever).

The second quote is a kid's version, where "La Cucaracha" is just a cockroach, no metaphor involved.

Why is o tejano music so important?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Tejano Music was coined (first said or established) in the early 1980's. It was a product of the combination of La Onda Chicana and Conjunto Music. To understand the roots of Tejano Music you must understand that at one time it was two distinctive music groups. La Onda Chicana's past goes back to Chicano music and even further before all the way back to Beto Villas Orquestra and even further back. On the Conjunto end it can be traced back as far as Conjunto Bernal and further. Currently the origins of Tejano Music are still argued and do not have a set form of definitions. There are a few pioneers of Tejano music still alive and around for information. You might want to try locating Marcelo Tafoya he was the first lifetime achievement award winner at the Tejano Music Awards (TTMA) and was the first DJ to play Tejano Music on the air fulltime. Tejano became big in the 90's when the "Queen Of Tejano" music Selena, burst onto the scene. After her death on March 31st 1995 the world was shock but as her music carried on by making her first English album that was released pothumously, she became one of the fastest selling females in the world, the first hispanic singer to go number 1 on the Billboard Pop Chart, one of the most succesfull latin artists in the world, and has appeared in the Guinness Book Of World Records 1999 as "Most Dominating Artist".

IMPROVE:

Narciso Martinez (R.I.P.) is the Father of Conjunto Music starting back in the 1930's. In our Tejano Music Culture we have Conjunto, Chicano, Tejano, Tex-Mex and Tejano Orchestra Classic Music. Tejano Music & Entertainment is Unique, there is no comparison. That why we called it, Our Unique Tejano Music & Entertainment. In our Tejano Culture we have Tejano Bands and Tejano Music Bands. Tejano Music Bands plays only Tejano Music. Nowadays, Tejano Music Bands might play Tejano and Country Music. while Tejano Bands might play, Conjunto, Chicano, Tex-Mex or Norteno Music. Norteno Bands are from Northern Mexico while Tejano Bands are from Texas. Please, try not to confuse Norteno or Banda Bands with Tejano Bands or versus. True Tejano Music Lovers knows the differences between the music mentioned above as well as the differences between these bands. Always remember, Tejano Music is Unique, there is no comparison.!

What music is popular?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

What parameters are you putting on the term "popular"?

Sales, airplay, ability to influence wider society?

When looking at regional sales of music it would be the Hip-Hop, Rap, Rock, and Country sales in America.

Latin countries are beginning to catch up with America in tastes of music. Latin style music is also changing some other already popular genres.

In European countries the majority would be Rock, Rap, Electronic, Pop, and possibly Hip-Hop.

They are relatively close to America.

The music sales can usually reflect on the amount of users listening, though there are variables so it may not reflect completely accurately.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

0-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AnswerAccording to me, there are two major kinds of Indian Classical Music -- Hindustani Classical Music (also know as North Indian Music) and Carnatic Music (also know as South Indian Music)

Native American Indians = make their own music(most of them), depending on the tribe they use drums, flute, etc

East Indians(Asian subcontinent) = listen to all kinds of music, most of the music is Sound Tracks from movies, and lately it is albums from local bands(of different languages). There is many languages in India, so different language albums.

Hope this helps.

Indian music for the most part ... they can even listen to English ... also depends on what kind of an Indian u r speakin of -- of course they listen to Hindi, but depending on the place they are from, they may listen to malyali, telagu, gujrati, Punjabi and so on .. but majority of Indians listen 2 Hindi music regardless of the language

What year did salsa start?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Salsa, which has been America's favorite condiment since 2000-supplanting ketchup-actually has been a favorite condiment for thousands of years. The Chile has been domesticated since about 5200 B.C.E., and tomatoes by 3000 B.C.E. both in Central America. The two were combined into a condiment, which the Conquistadors named "salsa," or sauce. The spicy sauce gave name to a hot and spicy late 20th century dance related to the mambo...but that's just the tail end of the story.

salsa is the spanish word for sauce.

What is the latin word for 'from the beginning'?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

One of two Latin phrases may be chosen as equivalent to the English phrase 'from the beginning'. One option is the phrase ab initio, which is in the ablative case. The nominative, or subject, form of the word in the singular is 'initium', which means 'an entering upon' and, therefore, a beginning. Another option is ab ovo, which literally means 'from the egg'.

When was Blame It on the Bossa Nova created?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

== == The main contenders for the creation of the Bossanova are Antonio Carlos Jobim and Jaoa Gilberto (the first Bossanova record is possibly their soudtrack for the movie 'Black Orpheus'). Other important contributors are Carlos Lyra, Roberto Meneschal, Vinicius De Moraes and Roberto Boscol. Some say that the Bossanova was born in the Copacabana apartment of singer, Nara Leao, where many of these musicians would gather to play. Bossanova was popularised outside of Brazil with the release of the Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto album 'Getz/gilberto' which featured the wildly popular 'Girl from Ipanema' sung by Joao's wife Astrid.
