Has any work been done on the wiring? If so I would say that someone has reversed the brake and reverse light wire. Does the brake light come on when you put it in reverse? If so then reverse the wires. If not then you possible have a screwy grounding problem. You will just have to take out the tail lamp and check the condition of the wires and connectors. I hope this helps some.

Did you reset the light? I don't know what gasket you changed, but undoubtedly that was not the problem. The check engine light comes on when there is a problem with the emissions system.

Remove the air intake ducting.
Remove the top engine plastic cover.
Remove the black plastic covers over the spark plugs & wires. (They're about 2 ft long, grooved, run from front to rear and also cover the distributors & timing belts)
Gap new plugs to 1.1mm (0.043 in.)

VBD I agree...If you want an in-car phone an upscale electronics center might have digital in-car phones that you could install in place of the existing analog unit. There are also adapters that allow some hand-held cell phones to be inserted so that they become an in-car phone. LOL.

I have a 1990 LS400 and I have never heard of a timing reset button. The timing is set by the timing belt and controlled by the computer. Let me know if you find out there is such a thing. vbd

The cover slides straight forward. Firmly pull, sliding toward the front of the car to release the latch. Gently lift straight up (the wires will remain connected to the lamp socket. Twist out bulb socket (counter clockwise) remembering the orientation for it's return trip (it's a confusing socket).
