New AnswerIn my experience, Ford transmissions will start slipping when the fluid wears out. I'd recommend a fluid change first.When the fluid in a Ford transmission is done it is done. If not fixed the transmission well be shortly as well. I could smell the transmission fluid burning on my windstar and had the fluid change and have since put another 20,000miles on it. The ford service technical said its not like a gm transmission they will last longer while working very poorly.

an "old fashioned "way, (but one that still works) to test an alt. is remove the pos.(red) cable from the batt. if the car still runs the alt. is good. if it shuts off, it's not. if you have had it tested then have the batt. tested. it could have "dead cells" in it. if they are both good, you have a wiring problem, or a fusible link has burned out, which is very rare.
Removing the Engine is kinda tricky on this because there are no lifting eyes, most everything is plastic and even easier to break when aged, and the Engine is "shoehorned" in the Engine compartment.
I have found that using a long strap such as a tow-strap cradling the whole engine will prevent damage to (plastic) valve covers and solves the problem of having somewhere to lift. an extra tip for unbolting the Transmission from the engine is to remove the Intake Manifold first, It will save time and alot of Bad words.

the intake manifold is made in with the throttle body plenum located on top of the engine. There is a plastic covering that needs to be removed first. Be careful when removing the intake manifold. There is a retaining bolt on the back side that isn't visible and the emission control valves attached on back of the plenum have electrical connectors that are easily severed if not removed with caution.
