What is the job description for maintenance man for factory machinery?

the perpendicular force applied at the end of a wrench handle. Because torque= Fd / T = F d cos θ
therefore the greater the distance the greater the torque.

d=distance
cos=cosine
θ=theta

What is the difference between sealed bearings and shielded bearings?
Shield and seal are single or double walls to keep elements from entering into the bearing and grease from leaking. Unlike seal, shield allows a large gap thus fine elements can still go in. However, because of the non contact nature of shield, there is little loss in terms of torque and heat build-up. Seal on the other hand, because of the contact nature with the inner and outer rings, is better at keeping the elements out at the cost of torque and heat generation at high speed.
To calculate wrench size you measure across the flat surfaces of the nut or bolt, then pick a wrench marked with that size. Be careful, there are metric and SAE nuts and bolts and some wrenches are close but not right. -For instance you should not use a 1/2" wrench on a 12 mm nut. -It may look right, but will round the edges of the nut.
A cold chisel is one made from steel that is then tempered and is able to cut through other metals. Much used by metalworkers and blacksmiths.

An Ash Hopper can be one of two things:
1) ash hoppers were used to funnel the lye out of ashes to make soap. (before soap came out of fancy factories, like it does today, and had to be made at home) The ashes had to have water run through them to remove the lye, so ash hoppers were enclosed, and they were "V" shaped to control where the lye went.
2) ash hoppers are can be used to collect the ashes and slag from steam generating coal powered boilers. Without Ash hoppers, a furnace would get clogged with coals during use, and become inoperable. This type of ash hopper is usually water cooled to prevent overheating from being under the furnace, and to help ash and slag leave the system at a safer temperature.
Hope this helps!
