To open the hood on a 2001 mercury cougar when the hood latch cable snaps you will need to release the mechanism from the underside. You will need a mechanics prybar and look up from underneath the car, place the screwdriver tip in the release mechanism and turn.

waddup man my girl has a 95 mercury mystake (mystique) and the same thing happened i replaced two alternators in two days and found out the original one was fine it was a compter in the car (those little electrical harnesses in the engine) and it was corroded so bad it wouldnt keep a charge to the battery and was constantly draining it...

the power window regulator is a bar that ur window sits on an attaches to the glass it basically keeps ur window in track so that it doesnt fall out when u roll it down and up it also controls how fast it comes up . for instance if u didnt have a winow regulator an u went to push ur button to roll up your window it would bust the glass cause it moves to fast . p.s. learned form personal experience but if ur window is just froze up an wont go nowhere u can take off the magnetic shaft on the window motor and it will go up an down so smoothly just thought i would tell u how to save some money

Idol air control valve maybe. In my 01cougar the idol air control went out and it made a loud noise that sounded like it was comming from the air box

Ok so you have to go where the ignition switch is at on the 1991 cougar. Next, You have to take the old one out. Last, you have to put the new one in.

Unless it is a high efficiency model 14 SEER or greater, it is only supposed to run on high speed in a/c mode and low speed in heat.

if its dis you can't but if not you have to unplug the spout connector

It's a mercury cougar. I'm afraid this car has problem after problem and needs to be not driven. That aside, 1. starter is bad 2. battery is bad 3. wire problems (very possible with this genius wiring system in these cars) 4. engine seized 5. fly wheel seized. Could also be a short in the ignition column. Wiring problems are wicked bad with these cars for sure.
