I just finished replacing my pump! There is a valve on the fuel rail that you can place a gauge on. The pressure should be in the 35 psi plus range when the pump is on. The pressure should stay hi for awhile after you turn the pump off.

My car was getting harder to start for awhile. An easy method to check for the lack of fuel is to put a little ether in the carb. Does it start then die? If so, fuel problems.

It is a fuel filter (almost never), and injector, the relay or the pump. Injectors normally go bad slowly so you would have had missing and other issues. The relay can be swapped with the starter relay. No crank? Replay replacement time.

The last thing is the pump. If it is not the relay, it is probably the pump. Do not skimp and get the lowest cost pump. Normally low cost is fine, but cheap pumps seem to fail withing a year or two for me.

There are methods of doing this - and I've tried them a couple of times with some of my older Tauruii/Sables.

Here's my opinion: don't waste your time - it's so unreliable and vague.

I'm 99+% sure the 95 uses the current diagnostics system, OnBoard Diagnostic II (OBD II) so any local auto parts store that offers free code scanning / reading can do that on the 1995's.

If you're looking for a factory original CD player, check an auto salvage / junkyard. There are online sources of "recycled" auto parts also.

There can be as many as 6 speed sensors, so which speed sensor are we talking about?

There are 4 speed sensors, one at each wheel, if we have antilock brakes. There is a output shaft speed sensor on the output shaft housing of the transmission on the passenger's side of the car, down behind the engine, and there is a turbine speed sensor on the body of the transmission over on the driver's side.

In the power distribution box ( which is " live " ) located in the engine

compartment by the battery :

( mini fuse # 13 is a 20 amp fuse for the instrument panel power port

and # 14 is for the 2nd row power port )

On a 1996 Mercury Sable :

The automatic transaxle ( transmission ) fluid level dipstick is near the

firewall and the brake fluid reservoir ( looking from the FRONT of the

vehicle it is to the left of the reservoir )

If it tastes and smells sweet, you have a leaking heater core. If it is just water, you have a leak at the windshield or the A/C condenser drain line is clogged.

Generally speaking a high idle is caused by a vacuum leak; in this case it could be that or a mis-adjusted or malfunctioning: TPS, MAP, MAF - the first step would be to use a code reader with "live data" function to see if these sensors are working correctly; and then (if they are) check for a vacuum leak in the system.

In a 1999 Mercury Sable :

The 3.0 liter " Duratec " V6 engine is a Dual Over Head Cam

design ( it has 2 camshafts on top of each cylinder head )

and

The 3.0 liter " Vulcan " V6 engine is an Over Head Valve /

pushrod design engine ( it has 1 camshaft )

A starter will seldom "go bad", but when it does, you will definitely hear a "grinding" or "dragging" noise as it rotates (usually is slow to rotate). That condition is called "starter dragging", caused by worn bushings. When the bushings wear, the starter will drag against the armature inside the starter hull, causing the slow rotation and "dragging" or "grinding" sound. A single click when you try to start the vehicle is usually indicative of a faulty starter relay/solenoid. Or possibly just a loose cable. A rapid clicking sound is usually caused by a low battery. Could also be caused by a loose cale.

For a 2005 Mercury Sable :

The electric fuel pump is INSIDE the fuel tank

It is installed through an access hole on the top of the tank

if the car turns then the fuel pump probally went out.Get some starting fluid and spray in the intake if it starts the fuel pump is bad.

It could also be the chrank shaft sensor if you check the coil pack and its not getting fire or it barely arcs then change the sensor you may have to change the coil packl aswell, depending on how little of an arc there is

Bolts by the starter(2 on starter) and 5 or 6 around the transmission housing and 2 up by the front of the motor near the axle for the passenger side front wheel where you can't see them.

Not likely to find it anywhere but in a Ford factory service manual. You do have a owners manual for fuses and such that will get to most problems.

Haynes Manual would be your best option here. It's about $16 at auto store.

i have a 96 merc. sable. the Taurus is basically the same, but my fuse box is under the steering wheel on the bottom of the dash where all of the wires are. try to look under the dash on the left side. hope this helps. the diagram is there or in the manual. My 1996 ford Taurus has a fuse box in the front engine compartment above the radiator. However, it is not clear what each is for? Chilton repair manual has most electrical diagrams and can be purchased for almost all cars at autozone. Chiltons can also be contacted on-line and definitely have what you need.

A 1997 Taurus owner.

They are in the central junction box. [the fuse box under the dash] But they are integral with the box. You have to remove the fuse box, take it apart, and they are inside, soldered in. If you can solder, you can replace them.

If you have the metric trans, the pump is in the top of trans body, near to the engine. You must remove trans to get at the pump.

Pump the brake rapidly with them half engaged and attempt to shift it out.
It should come into gear.

Warpped rotor. rotors are warped have them checked and turned or replaced. they should be turned after every brake change

it gets 18-20MPG in the city and 25-28MPG on highway
