Miniature Pinschers

The dog breed known as the miniature pinscher, or min pin, originated from the country of Germany. Its ancestry like is derived from the German Pinscher in addition to Italian greyhounds and Dachshunds.

They are quite active and are very alert. They make outstanding watch dogs. They are classified in the guard dog class in Germany along with Rottweilers, German Shepherds, and Doberman Pinschers because of their keen alert nature and strong predisposition to guard and defend. They are friendly, intelligent and quite playful. They can learn rather quickly due to their intelligence however they are a bit mischievous. A calm, assertive, authoritative approach is recommended in training and discipline. They are known to dislike being shouted at and will ignore a loud command. They are good with children but early socialization is important to their social development. Owners often describe them as fun, interesting, and entertaining dogs. A line used by some in describing Min Pins is "they are like potato chips...you can't have just one!"

It's all about attitude! My min pin will attack anything that threatens me. She has no idea that she only weighs ten pounds. They walk with a "hackney" gait that makes them seem tall and proud. I could go on and on, but I'm pressed for time. One big thing about min pins is that they always seem hungrey so it's easy for them to get fat. I've figured out an easy fix for that. I give mine a tablespoon of low salt canned salmon every morning. The protein seems to give her enough of a boost that she's not starving all the time and her coat is beautiful.

Chocolate is not good for any breed of dog. It is not recommended to be given in any quantities.

I do not know how to work this web site so before you all start posting horrible things please let me explain my situation. I was taking my puppy in the back yard to go to the bathroom where she fell out of my arms onto the pavement. Because it did not appear,nor does it yet appear to be broken, I did not call the vet immediately. After carefully watching her for 24 hours she seems to not be in immediate pain, only when she puts weight on the leg. This morning she seemed to be about the same so I called the vet to see what I should do, and if they happen to have a payment plan. Of course they said that i should bring her in, but they do not have any sort of payment plan, and if that was what i was looking for that I should call around to see if i could find one that does. They also suggest that i apply for care credit. Now normally I wouldn't have to ask for a payment plan but as it so happens i had an unexpected bill that wiped my bank account. I went online and applied for the care credit, which i was denied. I also called every vet in a 25 mile radius of my house, and not one will do any sort of payment plan. So until Friday a vet is out of the question. Please help

You don't the vet does and the earlier the better.

At this point you need to act fast.Maybe someone who just moved in with you or a new pet you got is aggravating it. It may be in heat or going blind.If none of these are causing it then take it to a vet.If they show nothing is hurting her take her to an obedience school.If they can't train her you may be at the end of the line...

Nobody really knows. Besides, a Miniature Pinscher is a specific breed and can't be "made" again. Individual dogs were specially hand-picked to contribute their looks, structure, and personalities in attempt to create this dog. Anyway, some of the breeds that were used might be extinct.

It all depends on the dogs and the way they are introduced. Breed has nothing to do with it. A Pit bull can be best buds with a Yorkie! If they are dog agressive, probably not.

not if the min pin is a female. a husky is way to large of a dog. she and the pups would prob. not make it through th birth.

For a mating to take place between a Rottweiler and a Miniature Pinscher would be extremely difficult without human assistance. The size difference would mean that it is unlikely that intercourse would occur naturally without one of the Dog's getting hurt. For this mating to take place artificial insemination may be needed. Remember that crossbred puppies are worth considerably less than pedigrees so it may be worth mating two Rottweilers or two Miniature Pinschers.

Had a dog with dry skin issues also. Vet suggested oatmeal baths. Worked very well for her. Can find dog shampoos with oatmeal in it already.

UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND UP TO AN HOUR CHASING YOUR MINIATURE PINSCHER NEVER LET THEM OFF OF A LEASH WITHOUT BEING INSIDE A FENCE. THE ONLY WAY THEY STOP IS WHEN THEY ARE READY. The above poster is correct, but, I did own my Min Pin 'Mickey' during the 1960's and was trained with him. He was 12 lbs. of fury and since I traveled from up North (in Canada) to Vancouver by myself Mickey went everywhere with me as protection Don't laugh at 12 lbs. of fury because Mickey got great respect from the construction workers where I worked ... if I didn't like the guys tone of voice I'd simply say, 'Mickey, watch him!' Mickey wouldn't take his eyes off him and snarled. 12 lbs., of dog can go up your leg, chest or face like a rusty can opener. He was aggressive in protecting me so I had a trainer and Mickey listened to command and was no problem in running off. Training is most important and a lot easier than worrying about your Min Pin running off and not coming back until he/she decided too.

Min Pins are very curious dogs, which comes from their breeding as ratters - they love to hunt and explore. The answer is you can NEVER trust a min pin and need to ensure they are always in a secure area.

It could be allergy, but could be something worse, like heartworm. Heartworm symptom is a cough, not wheezing.
