Any meat that's under-cooked, such as chicken, pork, deli meats, and even cheeses that are processed from "raw milk" can cause food poisoning, which in turn, kills the fetus if the infection is bad enough. Not a very fun path to go down, there are other options.

Oh dear, had you had a positive pregnancy test? It sounds as though you have had either a late period or an early miscarriage. If the bleeding has stopped or is stopping and you feel otherwise well (no fever etc) there is no need to see a doctor. If it was an early miscarriage it will be all gone and there is no way of telling. These early miscarriages are usually becases something has gone wrong when the sperm fertilised the egg and there was no chance of a healthy baby. You are no more likely to have another miscarriage than anyone else.

I am not a human medical doctor, but some blood tests can still be positive even though the pregnancy has ended a few days before. The hormones measured can stya in the system for a while. Based on what you desribed it sounds as though this is a case of early embryonic loss. This can happen when something major goes wrong in the developing embryo and it can't survive. However, prior to this it has already signaled that there is a pregnancy and the mother's body recognized it. This would be a very early "miscariage".
Make sure an ultrasound confirms where the initial pregnancy was. If it was ectopic (in your tubes or even the abdomen), there is a slim chance the pregnancy continues despite periods but will only show low HCG levels because it is not a real pregnancy.

I myself just suffered a loss at week 17 and I had the same spotting, it was in the morning and after sex and slowly progressed until I had a check a week later and found the baby had no heartbeat. The discharge can be brown or bright red, but mine was only brownish and muscoucy and I had very little cramping. But don't jump to conclusions!! There are several other reasons you could be getting bleeding, such as a uterine tear (which can usually fix itself within your second trimester), various forms of placenta previa (90% of cases solve themselves also) or something as simple as a sensitive cervix, in which case sex may have to be put on hold for a while.
