Be aware that the first rains in the season will cause all the accumulate oil and spooge to float up to the surface and make the roads really slick for the first hour or three. Keep practicing your panic stops. Be aware that since there is less traction, your rear wheel will even more readily lock up, so be gentle with it until you get a feel for its traction in the wet. Yes it is illegal not to wear a motorcycle helmet while riding in and around New YorK. See the related Link below. And the helmet must meet the requirements of section 571.218 of the federal motor vehicle safety standards.

I assume you are talking about a half-style helmet. Any other type would be impossible to wear backwards. Even so, all helmets are designed to be worn one way, and provide the most protection that way.

To my knoledge Kawasaki does not make a 1100CC motorcycle however Honda does and i found the information for this if its any help. i also included some Kawasaki bikes around that size.

kawasaki made the zx11 in the early nintys, i have an 89 zx10 it makes 137hp at 10,000rpm. i would think the zx 11 is in the 150hp range.

The engine oil can be checked simply by running the machine until it is warm, and, after setting the bike up off the jiffy stand, remove that big silver plug that burns your right thigh. If the oil level is between the two notches, you are fine. That being said, there's more to oil than the level; does it look clean, or is it black and grimy? Does it smell bad? Smell like gasoline? All those indicate you need a change. Checking the primary/transmission oil requires a removal of the clutch inspection cover, A.K.A. the "Derby." Use care; the Motor Company uses butter to make the cap screws that secure the derby in place. The job of checking it, though, is as involved as replacing it, so if you even THINK you need to replace it, do so; Your clutch needs good clean oil to spin in.

It's much better for the drive train that way.

Most places have made it a law to wear a helmet at least, but the rest is pretty much optional. But if you were to wipe out, protective clothing can save you from some really nasty injuries.

Yes, mc riders in the entire state of Ca. are required to wear DOT approved helmets although enforcement of the DOT requirement is virtually non-existent. Many riders including myself use what are commonly known as "novelty" helmets.

From the Snell Memorial foundation website :

"The DOT Motorcycle Helmet Standard is a mandatory minimum for headgear sold for motorcycle use throughout the United States. It is specified in most US jurisdictions where motorcycle helmet use is required. Recently, Canada also requires that motorcyclists wear either DOT or Snell certified motorcycle helmets."

The European ECE 22-05 standard is accepted in Quebec and British Colombia. The DOT standard is the US Department of Transportation, SNELL is an independent non-profit organisation, and ECE 22-05 is the European Community standard. In Canada, the CSA no longer certifies motorcycle helmets.

Each province in Canada legislates their own motorcycle helmet laws.

(Snell is not a racing approval company, just a helmet safety approval company; all of the racing organisations in North America accept the ECE 22-05 standard for racing, but they also accept Snell. And the SA approval is very similar to the M "motorcycle," the main difference is that it must also have a fire resistant lining.
