Nationalism

Nationalism is a political ideology that believes in loyalty to one's nation, usually based on ethnic connections, historical ties, or loyalty to shared institutions. Nationalism was the philosophy behind the creation of the Nation-State in the 1800s, resulting in the unification of Germany and Italy and the disintegration of the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires along ethnic lines. Nationalism was always opposed by cosmopolitanism and in today's global economy, the dialogue between advocates of either tends to be tense.

How has the religion of Judaism influenced and contributed to Zionism?

When Zionism was first debated, it was debated outside of the Jewish religious circles. It came exclusively from members of the Haskalah (Jewish Enlightenment) and it was created to mirror the various nationalisms of Europe, such as German and Italian nationalism. Zionism described the Jews as a nation or people, with the particular work Judensvolk - Jewish people. Herzl, Ahad Ha'am, Jabotinsky, Trumpeldor, and Weizmann and other leading Zionists were all (1) Atheist or Agnostic, (2) never used scriptural references when discussing the Jewish State - except as evidence that Jews used to live in the Holy Land and their longing for it, (3) never sought rabbinical or community approval, and (4) wished to create a democratic state in violation of Halakha (which provides for the theocratic monarchy). Zionism only used Judaism in the most general sense, such as using Jewish symbols such as the blue and white from the tallit to form a flag or using the Jewish star as a national symbol.

In fact, only a small minority of religious Jews accepted Zionism before Israeli independence, led by Rav. Avraham Kook in the 1930s. He claimed that Zionism was supportable as an intermediate stepping stone to an eventual Jewish religious state. However, Rav Kook and the Religious Zionist movement did have increasing sway in Israel after 1967 when it became tied with Israeli government initiatives to populate the West Bank and Judaize East Jerusalem (in response to the Jewish depopulation during the Jordanian Occupation). The Religious Zionists use the religious narrative from Rav Kook, but take it one step further. In many cases, any Israeli national policy which would controvert the rise of the theocratic Jewish state in all of Mandatory Palestine should be opposed.

Most Orthodox Jews do not consider Israel to be a Jewish State, but rather a non-religious state run by Jews. It is worth noting that religious Judaism has also critiqued Zionism and sees the state apparatus as something designed to remove the uniqueness of the Jewish mission. Some take this to its farthest extreme and declare Israel to be a blasphemy without having a Messiah.

Liberal Judaism also has mixed opinions on Zionism. Some Jews have replaced devotion to God and religion with a strong patriotism to Israel and Zionism as its founding ideology and history. Other Liberal Jews take a view that Judaism supports liberal thought and development and so supporting a democracy like Israel is worth doing. Still others reject Zionism as a valid political avenue for Jewish self-realization and development.

How did the Holocaust affect Zionism?

Zionism did not affect the Holocaust. The Nazis were anti-Jewish in a racist sense. They didn't draw any distinction between practising and non-practising Jews, or between Zionists and non-Zionists. On the other hand, it is often said that the Holocaust had the effect of strengthening Zionism.

What horrific event led to an increase in Zionism?

The Holocaust. This made many more non-Jews sympathetic to Zionism as well as convincing the more religious Jews of the necessity of the Jewish State.

Nationalists want home rule?

Yes, nationalists want home rule. They believe that a nation will benefit from acting independently rather than collectively. For them, the world is comprised of its states and towns. No outer country is allowed to intervene with their national issues. In the modern world, nationalists also believe in spreading the influence in other countries. They do not want their nation to become a part of the world. On the contrary, they want to make the world a part of their nation. Many countries believe in this concept. Terrorism and terrorists believe in this concept too. Whenever you listen to or read a news about terrorism.. one common thing about them is that they want to spread the influence of their country/sect or religion/community over the world. In other words they want their race to rule the world. They want a new world order( this refers to the Illuminati's point of view). They want to reinforce the idea of Alexander the great- Ruler of the world.

Was Nationalism responsible for World War 1?

Nationalism is a concept invented by politicians to take advantage of the differences on people from different regions. these differences can be in Dialect, language, religion, colour, etc. For example I am proud to be an American, I am proud to be an African American, I am proud to be an Australian. the list goes on for ever. The fact that people in isolated areas have different and sometimes conflicting interests at a given point in time can be put to use by clever politician to pit people against each other. The majority of people being ignorant of what really takes place in the background is often misled using the so called nationalistic line that has always proved effective. A Nation is the result of the enforcement of a border. Greed after the goods of others was responsible for ww1.

How did nationalism inspire unification movement?

Saar Region; January 13th 1935; Ninety per cent voted for reincorporation with the German Reich.

Rhineland 1936; Rhineland had 100% ethnic German population. After French forces left at the end of 15 years, the entire Population of Rhineland erupted with glee to welcome German police. When German forces entered Rhineland, there was Jubilation on the streets of Rhineland.

Austria 9th March, 1938, Austrian Chancellor Kurt von Schuschnigg calls for a public vote for the 13th March, to decide if the country should join Germany. Austrian Chancellor Kurt von Schuschnigg resigns. On 12th March 1938, Germany announces "Anschluss" (Union) with Austria, and German forces cross the border to a cheering population. In the plebiscite 99% Austrians voted in favor of union with Germany. There had been no ultimatum and no threat, but instead there had been a spontaneous popular uprising of the Austrian people. When the German troops arrived in Austria on March 12, 1938, they found the streets lined with cheering crowds of jubilant Austrians who greeted them with the Nazi salute, showered them with confetti and threw flowers at their feet.

30th September 1938, Sudetenland; The Czech Government rejected the suggestion of a plebiscite. However they voluntarily agreed to relinquish the Sudeten districts since these regions were populated entirely by Germans. A four-power conference was suggested which would preserve the peace. The four powers were Great Britain, Germany, France and Italy and allow plebiscite in all German dominated areas forcibly cut away from Germany in war treaty of 1919.

Wars are financed by debt. Whosoever controls the debt makes immense profits for itself during wars. Wars means profits for international bankers. Hence people cannot be allowed to choose their own destiny. People cannot be allowed to choose peace over war.

The Jews put an end to the proposed four power conference proposed for preserving peace which would allow plebiscite in all German dominated areas, for on 7 November 1938, a few weeks after the Munich Agreement and shortly before the journey to Paris of the German Foreign Minister, Von Ribbentrop, the Polish Jew, Herschel Feibel Grynszpan murdered the German Third Secretary of State, Ernst von Rath, in the German Embassy in Paris. The five bullets fired put an end to the effort being made to extend the Munich Agreement by revision of the Treaty of Versailles to fix the damage that's been done after ww1 by allowing plebiscite in all German dominated areas.

Danzig had 95% German population. German civilians living in Danzig were being murdered. They were peaceful, most of them farmers. More than 58,000 died at the hands of communists and Polish civilians. Hitler pleaded for the League of Nations dozens of times to protect them. The world failed these people in 1939. Emboldened by the war Guarantee given England Poland refused to budge or allow plebiscite. No one can tolerate continued murder of their kin. Hitler finally took matters into his own hands and entered Danzig at their invitation to rescue his people. Unknown to Hitler this was how International bankers had planned 20 years earlier for WW2 to happen.

On Sept. 1, 1939, the German Army crossed into Danzig. On Sept. 3, Britain and France attacked Germany. Germany was merely defending itself. 6 years later 72 million had died. If Germany was held responsible for WW1 for coming to help Austria, than it is England which is to be held responsible for WW2 for coming to aid of Poland over Danzig a German Corridor in possession of Poland. England must pay reparations to world for being responsible for WW2 over a silly war Guarantee given by Chamberlain which led to WW2.

Lord Lothian, former British Ambassador to the U.S.A. In his last speech at Chatham House on this subject he remarked:

"If the principle of self-determination had been applied in Germany's favour, as it was applied against her, it would have meant the return of Sudetenland, Czechoslovakia, parts of Poland, the Polish Corridor, and Danzig to the Reich."
