When was decoupage invented?

As far back as the 12th century, Chinese peasants were creating paper cutouts in vivid colors to decorate windows, lanterns, gift boxes and other objects. This Chinese practice and expertise with scissors is thought to have come from Eastern Siberia, where cutout felt figures and designs were decorating objects in the tombs of Siberian nomads. During the 18th and 19th centuries this art form flourished throughout Europe. It even infiltrated the court of Louis XV. Ladies with an artistic bent snipped away at pictures and pasted them onto hatboxes, wig stands, fire screens and toiletry objects, keeping themselves amused for hours. The works of Boucher, Watteau, Fragonard, Redoute, Pillement and many other distinguished artists came to this sticky end. Many magnificent examples of fine cutting, coloring and design can still be found today on bureaus, chiffoniers, armoires and similar pieces of furniture.

Who invented Quilling?

Which type of quilling are you asking about? There are 2 types. One is paper quilling (also known as paper filigree) and is an art form that uses paper strips.

The other is Native American quilling which is an art from using the quills from a porcupine to decorate clothing and objects.

Paper Quilling is believed to be discovered by nuns during the 1500's to replicate expensive metal filigree. They used stirp cut from gilded books and coild then on quills from geese or ducks hence the name quilling. It has experienced many re-births and presently is being used all over the world. Quilling now has several professional guilds and is recognized as an art form rather then a craft by those who appreciate the skill and beauty of quilling.

If you want to learn about quilling, there are tons of online resources and many online quilling groups. Use your search engine to find them.

I'm afraid I know little about the history of Native American Quilling. Hopefully someone else can answer this.

How do you make kensei from bleach's hollow mask out of only paper mache?

First of all you're gonna need a solid rectangular base the size of your face such as the lid of a lunchbox (that's what I used). Then you'll need to cover that in papier mâché. Make it kinda thick so as to conceal the base. Leave it to dry and afterwards you can put a hole on the sides that cover the sides of your face. Put a strong thread or string through them that can support it on your head. Cut pieces of cardboard in arch shapes to cover it behind your head. You can the put in the bottom and middle holes with black marker while making the top holes by cutting out. If you want you can put a kind of see-through, black material on inside (I found thin cloth to be very helpful).

How do you make a paper mache dragon head?

It's depending on the size really, I'm answering from a large scale. I think what I would do is make a basic shape from mesh and stuff it with news paper and secure it with ties. then cover it with strips of newspaper dipped in glue until it's all covered then build it up with papier mache, adding detail (scales, eyes, ears etc...) Then when it's dry paint it in your desired colours and what not :)

How do you make paper mache breasts bigger?

Add more paper mache. If the paper mache is too heavy and you can't create the right sized breasts for your taste, then you should build a stronger base using chicken wire. It all depends on how big you want them. If they are larger than a small trash can, then you should probably go to Lowes and buy some wood and large gauged wire to support the breast material.

What's a good paper mache recipe and what can you do with it?

To make this paper mache paste, you need 1 part flour to about 5 parts water. Start out by putting 4 parts water into a pot on the stove and bring it to a boil. While you are waiting for it to boil, mix 1 part flour to 1 part warm water. Beat this mixture briskly to remove lumps. Once your pot of water is boiling, slowly stir in the water and flour mixture. Mix well and let it boil for 2 - 3 minutes. It should be smooth and have the constancy of thick glue. If necessary, you can add more water or flour in small amounts until you get the desired consistency.

Can you walk through a sheet of 8 x 11 paper?

Yes, you can make a hole in a single 8 x 11 sheet that is big enough for anyone to walk through. What you will do is turn the sheet into a very long, thin strip that makes a loop. If you are careful, you can do this without using any tape to form the loop.

Begin by making a hole very close to the edge, about 1/3 inch or 1 cm in, and making a long cut the same distance in from the edge. Stop before you reach the end of the sheet, turn sideways and cut similarly close to this paper edge, almost to the other side. Now you have a long L-shaped cut that forms a narrow strip along two sides outside the cut. From this point you will cut the remaining large part of the sheet. Go to the outside near the end of the L-cut, move about 1/3 inch along the uncut portion, and cut in from the outside, parallel to your existing cut. This is extending your long strip. Stop before you reach your original cut. Start a new cut from that cut about 1/3 inch along, head back toward the outside of the sheet. Stop before you get there.

You can see that if you continue to make alternating cuts from the outside, then from the inside cut, you turn your whole sheet into a long strip and the hole becomes increasingly large. Soon you can let it dangle and walk through.
