That large tag on the headlight bulb for the 206 should it fit to the top or the bottom when fitted

Ive just hunted this down for my own car and from what i can gather its behind the panel below the steering wheel although i havent checked yet i found this info in a forum

Its most likely an electrical failure, that's if your brakes are working fine.

sounds like head gasket has blown

with some modification possible, otherwse it wont be a direct fit

If it's pulsing the revs - jumping up a little over idle like you're just touching the throttle - that could be a bad injector not spraying properly and giving you uneven running. Sometimes the revs can jump as high as 1500+rpm, and it's worst when very cold or very hot. Another symptom if it's that would be trouble starting it in the cold, no matter how many times you run the glow plugs.

there is one unit attactch to the key barrel and plugs into the com 2000 unit (back of wiper /indicator arm )

The hard bit is getting to the starter to unscew the bolts and getting enough room to remove it once loose. YOu will need to take off a number things from the top of the engine.

The starter is located at the front middle of the engine under the diesel filter.

You will be able get to two of the starter bolts from under the bonnet and the other from below.

You will need to loosen or remove the wiring from around the top of the engine to allow you to remove the starter once loose. (remember where all the plastic connectors reattach).

You should only attempt to do this if you are fairly confident with spanners and have a decent set. You will need 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 14mm spanners and sockets. 8mm socket, 8mm Allen bolt (straight Allen key), small torque.

It is not difficultto do the job just to get to the starter and get enough room to remove and replace. Takes about 4 careful hours start to finish for a none machanic with car on jacks.

You should always follow the 3min rule when disconnecting the battery (search peugeot battery 3min rule) and have the car SAFELY and securily jacked and always let someone know where you are and what you are doing just incase.

This is how I did it

Make the vehicle safe.

Remove.

Unplug the three quick release connections to the air intake pipe and rocker box (hard plastic pipe) and move rearward out of the way. Slacken off the two pipe clips holding the plastic 90 degree intake pipe and remove. Unplug the coil pack connector (grey plug on ours) in the middle of the top of the coil pack and move out of the way. Remove the two 6mm studs or nuts from either end of the coil pack. Lift and remove the coil pack. Remove the throttle cable from the main cable steady/adjuster by first pulling the large long spring clip to provide enough slack to remove cable nipple from air butterfly actuator. Remove small plastic cable support and move cable out of the way. Remove the central steel cable support (Three torx screws)

NO SMOKING

With the fuel rail still secure, remove fuel supply pipe by depressing the quick release buttons (both sides) and easing the pipe off of its spigot. (Will be a snug fit, don't snap the spigot) As it is removed, petrol will spray out as the seal is broken until the system pressure is depleted. Remove the two torx screws securing the fuel rail and the central 6mm nut holding the small steadying bracket. The other end of this small bracket is slotted so the awkward 6mm nut below securing the other end needs only slackening off. Remove the four spring clips between the fuel rail and injectors. Be careful not to bend these too much if replacements are not available. Firmly, wiggle and lift the fuel rail off the top of the injectors. (do not be tempted to get the crow bar out) Some injectors may stay in the head although some may come away with the rail. These can be separated before the rail is fully removed. With the rail removed, unplug the injector electrical connection and remove the injector/s. Ensure all "O" rings and wire spring clips are accounted for..

Replace

With suitable lubricant on all "O" rings. Insert the injector firmly into its respective port. After checking the spring clip is suitable for use and in its correct position on the plug, remake the plug connection between the loom and the injector. A definite click should be heard when the spring clips snaps home.

Fit the undistorted clips in the correct orientation at the top of the injectors. Slide the fuel rail down on top of the lubricated "O" rings until the clips snap into place on the fuel rail flanges. Secure the central bracket, two torx screws and fuel pipe. Replace throttle cable in reverse order of dismantling and ensure adjustment is correct. Replace coil pack, connetors and other items in reverse order of removal. It may be a good idea to ensure any spilt fuel is not around for start up although by this time, it should all have evaporated.

Start up and check for leaks.

Took me about an hour at a lazy pace including a cup of tea.

Had the same problem with my old car. Needed a new battery in the end

If you mean 'Why does the stop light on my Peugeot 406 light when the hand brake is not on?' then here are some possible reasons

1 check the fluid level in the reservoir under bonnet

2 check that hand brake is functioning properly

3 check rear wheel cylinders for leakage

4 check brake shoes for wear

5 check the brake adjusters

Most likely reason is that the shoes are worn and/or the adjusters are not functioning which can lead to leakage from the rear wheel cylinders. Brakes may still work but if there is excessive play on the hand brake this is a good indicator that the adjusters need tensioning

10 amp small fuse located in the engine bay fuse box by the battery its the first ten amp fuse on the right hand side

I have the Peugeot 406 2.1 td glx model and i know it may differ slightly from model to model but my fan motor just went, i bought one from the local breakers yard and it worked a dream, its under the glove box on the passenger side, there is srcews all around the fan and there is awkward plugs all around it to undo it but get a recon one or a secondhand on to replace it as they are expensive to buy new if you can find one.

Pull the release on the right hand side drivers footwell. Then finger under the centre of the bonnet and slide to left

Open the bonnet and locate the fuse box next to the battery. It has a black cover on that needs to be lifted off by pressing the latch on the bottom and right hand side.

Locate the 10 amp fuse in slot number 3 (it is a small 10 amp fuse positioned next to the big green fuse) and remove. Check to see if the fuse has blown. Insert new 10 amp fuse in its place, put cover back on and close bonnet.

Lift the car from drivers side (UK) right hand drive and remove the plastic cover under the mudgaurd and you will see the fog light and over the fog light is the horn.If you you remove the fog light is more easy but with small gentle hands you can handle the horn.

fuel filter is located in aplastic housing at the front of the engine. open the drain screw on the front of the filter housing and allow the fuel to drain completely. disconnect the fuel lines from the top of the fuel filter housing by releasing the quick-release fittings using a small screwdriver. move them to one side, covering the ends of the fuel lines to prevent dirt entry. unscrew the top of the filter and lift the filter from the housing. refitting is reversal of removal.

the fuel PUMP (low pressure) is under the back right-hand seat and is replaceable by the careful amateur. As always surgical cleanliness should be adopted. Electrical connectors and fuel hose quick-release clips are relatively easy, but the fixing ring needs to be driven in and out gently and carefully - unless you have or make a suitable tool. My pump suffered an intermittent (not initially diagnosed) failure, and a few weeks later a total failure - which caused the engine to stop, and refuse to start.

its hard to find the interior catch. its in the passenger footwell, near the outer wall, right under the glovebox. its hidden well up there, but its there. pull it, and the bonnet will pop....

2000 psi all round

loosen the tension bracket (13mm) then loosen off the tension

remove the negative lead from battery, then starter and main lead off alt

remove belt, and tension bolt

one bolt left at top, think it's a 45 torx.....

to replace, just do the reverse
