Well the Putnam's have lost all of their children and only have Ruth left and the Nurse's have had nine health children. Also that Rebecca had said that the kids were just playing around that they will grow out of their foolish games but the Putnams wanted to believe that it was witchcraft that has gotten the kids. The Taming of the Shrew is a comedy by William shakespeare. It was one of his earlier Plays, believed to have been written between 1590 and 1594.The play begins with a framing device in which a drunkard is deceived into thinking he is a nobleman who then watches the "play" itself, which depicts a nobleman, Petruchio, who marries an outspoken, intelligent, and bad-tempered shrew named Katherina. Petruchio manipulates and "tames" her until she is obedient to his will. The main subplot features the courting of Katherina's more conventional sister Bianca by numerous suitors. Due to the existence of another Elizabethan play entitled The Taming of a Shrew, critics have long debated issues surrounding the play's authorship. In addition, the content has become the subject of considerable controversy, particularly for its misogynistic elements. The play has been adapted numerous times for opera, stage, screen and musical theatre, including Cole Porter's well-known version, kiss me kate.

England is also important to the setting, because it had a more rigid social structure at the time of the story than America did, so it was easier to spot the differences that kept Eliza stapled to the gutter of society. Overall, setting is important.

In Merchant, Antonio does seem to be extremely affectionate towards Bassanio. His melancholy when the play starts ("In sooth I know not why I am so sad") could be connected with his sexual attraction for Bassanio, who does not reciprocate. He also presses Bassanio to give away his wedding ring, which of course was calculated to make his wife angry, and which might have caused a rift between them, sending Bassanio back to the company of Antonio. Of course when he finds that his life has been saved by Portia, he has to accept it with good grace.

It's a plausible scenario. But Antonio plays just as plausibly as an extremely affectionate friend without any sexual overtones at all.
