Pontiac Fiero

The Fiero Fuel Pump Pulsator is located in the fuel tank connecting the fuel pump to the tube leading out to the engine. It has a rubber insert that connects both tubes (the pump being one of them) It is supposed to smooth the fuel flow but many have yet to determine a difference if it is removed.

No relay, Power provided directly from switch.

I have a 85 gt, for the stock wheels it has 5X100 bolt pattern with 57.1mm center bore and 42mm offset, the stock tire size for mine was 215/60r14. 14"x5.5" stock wheels I put 17"x7" tenzo wheels with 215/40zr17 tires. Its almost the same rolling diameter as stock, so the speedometer is 1mph off at 60mph. doing 59mph, shows 60mph. I used a tire size calculator website www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc

I locked my keys in my '84 several times. I know this sounds cazy, but you can squeeze your fingers in between the top of the glass and the gasket on the door. You then pull the glass slightly toward you, letting your hand go down and unlocking the door on the inside. I did this several times. It will not break or damage the glass, as long as you don't pull it toward you very far. Just enough to squeeze your arm down the inside of the glass, unlocking the door.

Fiero's don't come with 3.1 engines...the biggest engine factory is a 2.8 in the GT and SE models. Those cars came with about 146 hp and 160 ft/lb torque.

The Fuel pump in all Fieros regardless of year or engine (assuming stock engine), is in the fuel tank itself. Replacement of the fuel pump requires the removal of the fuel tank from the bottom of the car. The access port is located on the top of the tank. There is no access to it from within the car. Answer 1: heck yes you name it, it can be done to a fiero Answer 2: No, not the four cylinder, not in any noticeable way. It was designed as a sporty economy car, and canny GM engineers already implemented any worthwhile performance perks. The crankshaft is too light to take any meaningful horsepower increase and the rear end won't handle the increased torque from a larger engine. You'd have to change both the engine and the rear end and then you wouldn't really have a Fiero. On the other hand, my '87 four cylinder will do 116mph, which is plenty enough to get you in trouble, gets 27mpg, looks good, and the handling is great. The 6 cylinder is plenty fast already, but yes, you can turbocharge it, supercharge it, nitrous inject it, drop in a small V8, whatever you want. Just remember it does no good to beef up your engine if your transmission can't handle the increased torque.

Many modern 4, 6, and even 8 cylinder engines can be retrofit into a Fiero, some with a little modification as the use of new mounting brackets. Some larger engines require slight modifications, and some owners have even "stretched" their frames to fit some real monsters under their hood... (make that rear deck lid)

I don't know if this helps, but the fuel filter is located under the car. Since the fuel tank is between the seats I would say it is located slightly aft of the tank. I had my mechanic replace mine so can't tell you how to stop fuel flow, etc.

you will need to jack the car, and remove the fuel tank because the pump is in the tank. to do so, you better remove all the fuel in the tank with a manuel pump. once the tank is empty, you can remove the the hose clamp. be carefull not to damage the hoses when you will remove them, patience is always the fastes way. once all the oses have been remove, you can loose the bolts retaining the metal straps. dont unscrew them completely because you will want to remove the wirering without damaging it. once the fuel tank is remove, is time to open it up. carefully remove turn the big nut with your hands, 1/4 turn. then you can lift up the pump assembly. while you remove the pump, I suggest that you change the strainer.

if the car still has the original catalytic convertor. Starter is easy to unbolt, but will not come out until the right front exhaust springs are detached (thats the pain!!) to allow pulling the convertor down so the starter can come out on that side.

There is a special connector on the fuel rail sort of half hidden under the upper intake.

It has a black cap threaded on to it

Careful!! if you press the centre it will spray high pressure fuel all over and burn down the car and the person messing with it.

It kind of looks like a tire inflate valve but is a different size so you cant use tire tools on it.

You connect the special fitting there and read the pressure on a gauge on the hose connected to the special connector.

the fuses in a pontaic fiero are near the front hood release, it is a black box looking thing that has a button on the front. when you press the button the tray of fuses release and fall down in a near 90 degree angle.

There are two on the engine cooling system. One is kind of buried in behind the thermostat housing on the V6, it runs the fan. The other feeds the computer and the dash display and is threaded into the driver-side rear head. The 4 cylinder has the same sensors but I am unsure where it is.

There are technically 3 on the AC system. One is on the receiver tank in the spare tire compartment at the front and two emergency shut down sensors on the AC Compressor.

Call autozone and they will have a diagram of where this is. also in the haynes manuel the is a location showed for you

This engine will have seven injectors. 6 are the running injectors and there is a "Cold Start" injector.

The Fiero series during mainstream production never had powersteering. If it had continued one more year it would have, it was on the prototype

No, not unless you've stuck it where it doesn't belong anyways, such as inside the fuel filler or the exhaust pipe.

The ECM is not a restriction. It is a functional unit which provides important functionality for the engine and some other features. It is possible to achieve similar functionality through use of other add-on or replacement systems, making the ECM redundant. If the ECM is COMPLETELY redundant, it can me removed without any harm.
