A single hCG level does not give any information about the normalcy of a pregnancy. There are a number of reasons for a lower-than-expected hCG level. Your date of concepion may be wrong, adn you may hae conceived only very recently. Or the pregnancy may not be developing normally. Follow-up with ultrasound and a repeat hCG level in two days will clarify the picture and determine what type of additional testing is needed over the next couple of weeks. If that second hCG shows a normal doubling, then your pregnancy is just much earlier than you thought. If it has not doubled, more future blood tests will be needed. If the HCG level drops, the pregnancy may be coming to a natural end. In that case, your health care provider will likely give you some options to "wait and see" or to seek treatment earlier. You can take a blood test 10 days after you conceived, and a home pregnancy test (hpt) 12-14 days (try first response you can take if 5 days before your missed period). Some doctors may not give you a blood test until after you miss a period just depends on the doc. If you can hold out I would suggest if the doc won't give you a blood test wait till the day you should expect you period to take a hpt for the best results.

that happened to me i took a pregnancy test 2 weeks or maybe 3 after unprotected sex when i first took the test just one line popped up then when i went back it was faintly positive then maybe a week after my late period i started bleeding very heavily and took 3 more test and they where all negative and when i went to my docter i found out i miscarried == == Unfortunately if you test very early you can get a positive hpt then bleed very heavy cause the egg did not take then you can get a neg. cause the baby is no longer there. That is the reason why most doctors do not like to test early. This has happened to a lot of women when they didn't even know it cause they get there period like normal.

It sounds as though your system is takingg a while to get back into gear after coming off the pill. Give it time. I would certainly say you are not pregnant. To echo the excellent answer already provided, I just wanted to clarify something you said in your question; the blood tests that we do for pregnancy do not just come back negative or positive--they tell the exact level of the hormone associated with pregnancy that is in the body. If it comes back at non-pregnant levels, the person is not pregnant. If you are trying to get pregnant, I'm sorry that it has not happened yet; sometimes it takes quite a while after stopping BCPs. If you have had positive pregnancy tests GO TO THE DOCTOR! Babies (and their moms) don't do well with no or little prenatal treatment! On second hand if you are pondering if you are pregnant or something of that nature.. you can go by the time of conception if you know when it was and just count it up. Or you can go from your last period. Most women conceive / are fertile from about 10-14 days after the first daay of their last period. So if you count it that way you should be pretty accurate. Despite the 9 months cliche' a pregnancy actually lasts for 40 weeks or 280 days which turns out to be 10 months but since there are 5 weeks in some of the months the duration of the 40 weeks is stretched over 9 months. If you don't want to calculate it yourself go to any of the baby web sites such as baby center or baby zone and they have pregnancy calculators.... you just have to know your due date or time you conceived. you didnt say when you took the tests but i am in the same boat i called the doctor and they told me the blood test they do are accurate only after 7 days late so i go again in two days fingers crossed
