Rodents

All rodents have one upper jaw and one lower jaw set of two continuously growing front teeth that must be worn down by gnawing. The order's smallest members are the 2.4 inch/6 centimeter African pygmy mouse and Baluchistan pygmy jerboa. Questions typically refer to the order's laboratory contributions to scientific advances, important representatives, geographic ranges, and environmental roles in seed dispersion and soil food web life.

What is the best the best rodent to have as a pet?

I would say a hamster because they are cute, fluffy, and they eat all of the vegetables you don't want to. They are relatively easy to take care of and they can't escape too often.

i would actually say gerbils because they are very nice and energetic and curious and if you have two hamsters in a cage together they WILL kill each other

What are mice used for?

They are a critical part of the food chain and ecosystem in which they live. They are herbivores, eating mostly grains and seeds, but have adapted in urban areas to a broader diet out of necessity. Many of our favorite animals rely on a supply of small rodents like mice for their food: foxes, hawks, owls and other birds of prey, and reptiles like lizards and snakes.

How much fruit and vegetable should I feed my two guinea pigs a day?

Copied from http://theguineapigrescue.com/care.htm

There's nothing quite like the sheer joy you'll see on your guinea pig's face when you bring them their daily fresh veggies! View our comprehensive link at the top of the page for a complete vegetable list, but here are a few of our favorites:

* In the morning, one tomato wedge and one baby carrot per guinea pig.

* In the evening, approximately 12 hours after your first feeding, feed a mix of about three veggies, which could include Romaine or Spring Mix lettuces, kale, celery (with all strings removed!), parsley, cilantro, cantaloupe, watermelon, cucumber, collard greens, green or red bell pepper (not the hot, spicy peppers), apple slices.

* Do not feed too many fruits that are high in sugar. They seem to like veggies the most anyway!

* Select vegetables that are high in vitamin C, as they do not make this on their own and need it from an outside food source, just like humans. Healthy piggies need 10 mg / kg of vitamin C per day, which, if not supplied in their food diet, must be supplemented with crushed vitamin C tablets for animals, sprinkled most easily on the cut side of their morning tomato every other day. Vitamin C added to the water is NOT the best source.

How do rodents effect soil?

Well... First of all , they can spread diseases to the plants ( if you're talking about a farm or vegetable garden ) therefore making the one who eats it SICK . But if you're talking about an average houseplant , I'm guessing it will harm the plant like I said and it will most likely EAT the plant since rodents have feed on almost anything.

What does it mean when a guinea pig scratches its nose?

Even though I don't have any experience with guinea pigs, if I use a dog as a reference, I'd bet it much for the same reasons as your guinea pig.

Dogs have wet noses because that's part of their respiratory system, in that the wet nose provides your pet a way to cool themselves internally. Most dogs have cold, wet noses and that's normal. If a dog's nose is dry and warm, most likely it's running a bit of a fever.

I don't know if a guinea's nose is also supposed to be cold, but I'd take a wet nose as a good sign until I found out more. You could call a vet and ask what a guinea's nose should feel like. Cold? Wet? Warm or dry? Most vet's have guineas as part of their regular patient list and they'd probably have a much better answer than I can give you. (Besides, I don't think they'll charge anything to answer that question for you. At least I don't think they should.)

Here is an answer from another contributor: A wet nose is normal, just be sure she doesn't have dried mucus around her nose.

How does the guinea pig survive in the wild?

Easy! A Guinea Pig makes a burrow and will find little bits of staggly grass or hay lieng around and then would take thyem along and cover them selfs with it. But they like to make a deep hole in the ground and then start to go up abit so incase there was a flood the Guinea Pig would not be harmed easily. Hope this helped! :)

Do bandicoots play dead?

The Bilby is the only bandicoot that burrows, with its burrow sometimes extending beyond a metre underground. This is one of the reasons why rabbits have disturbed the bilby's habitat - rabbit warrens destabilise the bilbies' burrows, causing them to collapse and bury the bilby. Other species of bandicoot, such as the eastern barred bandicoot and long-nosed bandicoot build nests within grass tufts, thick undergrowth or hollow logs.

What is a one letter word for a kangaroo pouch?

Kangaroos are marsupials and, like most (but not all) marsupials, they have a pouch, which is actually called a marsupium. This is positioned at the lower front of the abdomen. All baby marsupials, known as 'joeys' are born very undeveloped after a short gestation period, so they continue to develop in the marsupium, or pouch, for many more months. The purpose of the marsupium is to protect the joey until it has developed enough whereby it can look after itself.
