How do you self replace alternator in 1993 Monte Carlo 3.4 motor?
There's no such thing as a "1993 Monte Carlo 3.4 motor"... The first generation Chevrolet Monte Carlo (1970-1972). In 1973, the second generation Monte Carlo (1972-1977). Third generation (1978-1980). The fourth generation Monte Carlo (1981-1988). The last rear wheel drive Monte Carlo was built December 11, 1987 at 5:29PM at the Pontiac Michigan plant. After a six year absence, however, the Monte was re-introduced for a fifth generation (1995-1999). In 1998 and 1999 the 3.4L DOHC (215 HP) was changed to a 3.8L (A mere 200 HP) for the Z34 package.
Back to your question pertaining to a presumable 95-97 3.4L engine. The alternator is replaced by removing the right front drive axle. Not as hard of a task as you may think it to be, but if you don't know what you're doing nor have a book to go by, then it can be a tall order. I would recomend going to Auto Zone ---- BUY THIS: Haynes 24048 Chevrolet Lumina Monte Carlo and Impala Haynes Repair Manual for 1995 thru 2005 Front-wheel Drive Models (like $16.00). Then, may a bee line for NAPA and buy your brand new alternator there. It will cost a lot more but it will surely last the life of the engine as opposed to Autozone's Refurbed Crappers. Those go out too fast for as much work as you have to go through to replace the alternator on this engine. Be sure to compare the bracket fittings on the new alternator against the original. You may, more than likely, have to remove the old pulley and place it on the new alternator. For this you would need a "Pulley Puller". You can rent this at AutoZone. Also, DON'T FORGET TO UNHOOK THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL ON YOUR BATTERY BEFORE ANY ELECTRICAL WORK IS DONE TO YOUR CAR AND REMOVE ANY METAL JEWELRY AS WELL. I SAW A GUY NEARLY LOSE HIS FINGER BECAUSE OF HIS WEDDING RING GOT STUCK BETWEEN THE TERMINALS ON THE STARTER SOLENOID. GOOD LUCK!!

How much does it cost to repair turbo in 2002 Saab 9 5 SE?
Because it is a GM-adapted six cylinder, it costs more than the Saab 4 cylinder engines to repair the turbo. Depending upon the option selected, at an independent repair shop specializing in Saabs, the cost will run from about $1,700 for a rebuilt unit (and may take a couple of weeks waiting for the turnaround on the rebuild) to about $3,000 for an OEM unit. I have three 9-5 models (2001 SE; 2002 and 2003 Arcs) all with the V-6, and as long as the car is still in good shape, I'd generally recommend the cost of the repair but obviously that's a personal choice. Also depends on the quality and trust you have in the repair shop. To find a good repair shop in your area, consider using the Car Talk website. Takes some work/time to read through the comments, but it's worth it to find the right place. http://www.cartalk.com/index.html (Small box lower left - "Find a great mechanic" based on your zip code.

Saab Car Leasing is a method of getting a Saab (in fact any make of vehicle for that matter) via a finance company and paying a monthly amount for an agreed period of time.
The monthly amount you pay would depend on how much the vehicle is and the residual value (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residual_value) set by the finance company for the vehicle you choose.
Then at the end of the lease contract you either return the vehicle, or you could purchase it at an agreed price.
If you go a google search (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=car+leasing+deals) you will see there are lots of companies that do Saab leasing - If you need more information it might be worth you giving one of them a call, this site seems to be quite large (http://www.bestcarfinder.co.uk/) and has and FAQ section?
Hope that helps

How do you check transmission in 1998 900 Saab?
If when you start the Saab the "Check gearbox" comes on on the dashboard just leave the car running for about 2 minutes before you drive just revving the engine. This happens as the engine has got moisture inside it or is in a wet or damp or cold environment... have you got an automatic?
Saab 900 transmissions can be expensive to repair. The entire driveline (engine and gearbox) must come out to make most internal repairs, and the replacement parts are not cheap. 1500 $US sounds about right for the labor involved (depends on the hourly rate). However, sometimes an errant reverse problem may be repaired with the gearbox in the car. A good Saab mechanic will know how to do that. Do NOT take a Saab transmission repair to an all-encompassing repair shop as they will likely not have the tools nor the expertise to do the repair correctly and it will end up costing even more in the long run. - - - - - Being a Saab and being an 89, parts to fix it may be outrageous in price..... It's a good chance that may be a fair price. Other options would be try to find a decent used transmission. You can google "Used transmission, 1989 Saab 900" or search salvage yards. You may or may not find a transmission, but you never know til you try.
How do you remove front brake caliper on a Saab 900?
Wink says: You don't specify a year. The procedures are different depending on the year. A good shop manual will provide the best information.
In brief, here is what you do on 1979-87 900s: 1) Jack up front end, set car on jack stands and remove wheel. 2) Remove the parking brake cable from the lever, remove the protective boot, and remove the circlip holding the cable to the yoke. Pull the cable out of the yoke and tie it to the spring. 3) Remove the brake pads.
4) Disconnect the brake fluid hose. Unless you want brake fluid all over your work area, find a way to plug the end. 5) The bolts are on the back side of the caliper, held in place with a locking plate. Knock the tabs from the locking plate back with a screwdriver. Remove the two bolts that hold the caliper to the upright. 6) If the rotors are scored, they need to be replaced as well, along with new brake pads.

Carlblum says: I have NEVER read a manual or asked anyone how to replace the brakes on any vehcile in the over 20 years of working on vehicles. If you have to get your brakes worked on, and you have no knowledge of vehicle brakes, have someone you know, who knows HOW TO DO IT RIGHT, show you. or Take it to a shop. The most prominent weapon in use in America today is the Automobile. Playing with it, is like playing with a loaded 357 magnum with the hammer cocked.
