Should originality always be highly praised than conformity?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It is very likely that many theories are nuanced and highly developed on paper, and that the problem with translating original ideas into reality lies in the human factor. Ideas are too often used problem and abused for the wrong purposes. Truly resonating ones often lose complexity, nuance and depth when people reproduce them or forget the purpose of such ideas.

What is on-sat?

User Avatar

Assuming the SAT Reasoning Test (as opposed to Subject Tests)

SAT has three categories: reading, math, writing. The test is divided into 10 sections (which really bothered me on the actual test). Here is the overall structure of the test:

Section 1: Essay (writing)

25-minute essay on a given topic, usually moral or philosophical in order to appeal to the entire student population (e.g. "Do leaders of societies tend to overuse their power").

Sections 2-10: Reading, math, writing (in random order, but Section 10 is always a short writing section. Each section usually lasts 20-25 min)

Reading:

Vocabulary, comparing/contrasting two short stories, "long" reading sections

Writing:

Essay, grammar, proofreading

Math:

algebra, geometry, probability, some introductory statistics

Can senior student retake PSAT?

User Avatar

Asked by Zzthx

No. A student can take the PSAT only once and that is on the one day per year in October that it is given. The purpose of the PSAT is: (1) to help a student prepare for the SAT, and (2) to serve as the screening test for selection of National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. It would serve no purpose for a senior student to retake the PSAT. From the standpoint of standardized testing, a senior should be focused on preparing for the SAT, which is a much longer version of the SAT.

A senior who was not selected as a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists certainly should not be worried about that. Over 99% of the students who take the PSAT are not selected as National Merit Semifinalists. The National Merit Scholarship program is a nationwide scholarship program in the United States in which students who score in the top half of one percent of PSAT test takers in their state become eligible to compete for special National Merit scholarships offered by universities, businesses, and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation itself. The PSAT is only the first hurdle in this scholarship competition but the other three hurdles -- a B or better average, endorsement by the student's school, and completion of an application form and essay -- are not difficult to achieve. The Ivy League schools do not offer National Merit scholarships and many other large and better known schools now offer relatively small National Merit scholarships, usually in the range of $2000 a year. However, some excellent national universities, including USC, SMU, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma University, still offer very generous scholarships to National Merit Finalists accepted into those schools. But there is plenty of scholarship money available for top students with competitive GPAs and high SAT or ACT scores and good extracurricular activities and a student's PSAT score is not considered in awarding those scholarships.

What subject tests do the UC's require?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Note: The following information is from the UCLA.edu website (link below).

Test Requirements

Students must submit scores on an approved core test of mathematics, language arts, and writing. This requirement can be satisfied by taking the following:

* The ACT Assessment plus the ACT Writing Test. Both tests must be taken at the same time; we do not combine test scores from multiple sittings.

- or -

The SAT Reasoning Test with critical reading, mathematics, and writing scores from the same sitting.

- and -

* Two SAT Subject Tests in two different subject areas*:

o English (literature)

o history/social studies

o mathematics (Level 2 only)

o science

o languages (other than English)

* Applicants to the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science are strongly encouraged to take the following SAT Subject Tests: Math Level 2 and a science test (Biology E/M, Chemistry, or Physics) that is closely related to the applicant's intended major.

Take these tests as early as possible, and have your test scores sent directly to UCLA. December of your senior year is the latest you can take any test in time for scores to be used for our selection process.

The SAT is a measure of what you have learned in your grade school education. It shows colleges a general picture of your academic aptitude, although it is in no way a deciding factor of your intelligence.

Are SATS any use?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Well, it's quite suprising that 70% of teachers are very against SATS, and so are many of pupils that take them. The Gouverment's excuse is that it is to level you as a pupil, and to take that information up with them to Secondary school.

Is the March SAT Curve Really the Worst?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Don't spend too much time worrying about one test date being "curved" to raise/reduce scores. If you're capable of scoring a 2050, you should be able to consistently score within 50 points above/below that mark, so if you feel that you'll improve your scores by taking the test in March (or at another point later in the spring or early next fall), you should certainly do so. You still have some time to prepare for the March test if you choose to take it, so maybe focusing on critical reading, which sounds like your weakest area of the SAT, would be a good strategy moving forward to make sure your scores are where you want them to be. What is a 370 on the SAT test considered?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A fail....

The average is 1500 so.. even per section that would be sub par.

But with desire to achieve, discipline in your studies and determination to reach a goal you can surpass that bar of 1500.

Also get any help you can: books, tutors, or online and free ones if you cant afford much

Does it look bad if you take the SAT or ACT multiple times?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

After 28 years I am a returning student to the college arena. It does not reflect badly on you if you are required to take the SAT or ACT exams more than once. Much of the information and processes some of us had to learn has changed over time. So if getting updated knowledge and retaking these tests is needed I believe it is better to do so now than to give up the dream.

AnswerNope. As long as you pass it, they do not care how much you take the tests. It just takes a lot of money out of your pocket. AnswerThey do not look at how many times you take the SAT/ACT tests. They just look at the highest score you got and that's it. Whether you take it 1 time or take it 5 times, the colleges don't care. Just your highest score.

It only looks bad if your scores do not improve.

Answer

Some colleges suggest that you should take the SAT at most three or so times. This is because taking five or six SAT's shows that you are overly desperate to get into that college (and there are better ways to show your desperation). My advice is to take it once and try to improve your score for the second exam.

Most students take the SAT in their Junior year of high school. However it is possible to qualify to take it as early as the 7th grade if accepted by programs such as the Duke University Talent Identification Program. Qualifications are based on standardized state and national test scores. You can also take it in 5th grade if yo work very hard.

How can you improve your writing skills?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Two ways, and neither is quick nor easy.

First, read. Read. Read. Read. Then, read. Reading often will give you a terrific feel for the way language is used and how ideas coalesce into sentences, paragraphs, chapters, etc.

Second, write. Write and then read what you have written aloud to yourself. Make your lips move. This will let you know where the text needs work. When you "feel" that an area of your writing needs work, you MUST actually work to fix it. Don't be lazy and just leave areas that are crying out for revision or improvement or deletion.
