What could cause a sudden drop in gas mileage in a 2003 Saturn Ion 5 speed?
first, check the computer codes. If that doesn't show anything, check the air filter and egr valve.
What does a major tune up consist of?
Major tuneups usually consist of replacing distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, fuel filters, air filters, PCV valve/filter, O2 sensor, checking ignition wires, setting timing, certain belts. Also fluids especially, oil, transmission fluid, water.
Pretty much anything that eventually needs to be replaced every so many miles, 3,000 30,000 60,000 (i dont mean water pumps, clutches, engines, or anything that major).

On a 2001 Saturn L300 the running lights quit working and it is not a fuse what else could it be?
My dashboard needles and half the lights of my dashboard quit working MONTHS ago and I'm too nervous to go see how much it will cost me. I have the same car, 2001 L-300 and I have had SO MANY problems with it, that this is one I'm learning to live with until I find the time to get it looked at. If you do find out what it could be, I'm curious to know as well!
DRL (daytime running lights) - its likely the relay, & dashboard issue's commonly caused by lost ground distribution. This is not absolute.
Where is the PCV valve on 2004 Saturn Ion?
Hi. PCV filters are no longer used on cars after 1998. Having a Saturn ion, I know there is no PCV valve. Hope this helps you.
The interior fuses are inside the panel on the right hand side of the drivers footwell.

There is no risk in mixing super unleaded gas and regular unleaded gas. Super is just given to the name of a gasoline because of cleaning agents and octane added to the gas not because the gas is completely different.

How many Hours does it take to replace the clutch in a 2003 Saturn ion?
That depends on operator / driver ability to properlyup-shift and downshift gears without putting increased wear on pressure plate. Do not ride the clutch for any reason as this will cause premature pressure plate / clutch wear. Clutch wear is caused from starting out in the wrong gear and riding the clutch or letting the clutch out to fast, jarring the drive train, same as downshifting, letting the clutch out forcefully and putting additional stress through out the drive train. Improper releasing the clutch pedal can damage a clutch very easily;
When starting out on level ground release the clutch slowly until vehicle starts to move then apply the gas slowly, watch your RPM gauge and when up-shifting, try to keep the shifts
SMOOTH;
DO NOT pop the clutch for any reason as this will cause clutch and transmission failure;
Clear concise shifting at recommended rpm will save clutch wear;
Pulling a trailer also will put additional stress on the clutch /pressure plate and cause
wear if not operated properly;
Road conditions also play a factor, as excessive wheel hopping, dirt, can also cause pressure plate failure;
Learning to shift without a clutch is possible but may cause transmission.
To make your clutch last longer, just use your clutch carefully and drive with due care.
Clutches wear out over time as does any auto part, but are made to last if properly adjusted.
However nothing will last forever so careful shifting without taking excessively long periods to make the shift is important.
My rule of thumb is when starting out in first gear, release the clutch and hit the gas gingerly
without jarring the drive train, once the vehicle is moving reach the desired rpm and depress the clutch while completing the shift, release the clutch prudently, try to keep everything as smooth as possible.
When downshifting remember that you must factor in that RPM'S as downshifting and letting the clutch out fast will cause drive train issues if not done correctly;
Starting on hills, takes practice, even the most skilled drivers stall the engine until they get the hang of it, using the emergency brake is a sure way to cause clutch wear unless extremely skilled.
Many truck drivers, only use the clutch when starting out and then use the rpm ( or engine sound ) to shift gears without the clutch, this is said to stop spaghetti leg which is a repetitive motion injury due to excessive shifting;
Good Luck; From BJ
What mileage do you tune up 2006 Saturn Ion?
You should do a complete tune up every 5000 miles. You should change the oil every 350 miles. You should change all break parts including calipers and rotors and pads every 8000 miles. You should change struts and springs every 12,000 miles. It wouldn't hurt to just change the whole engine after 35,000 and the transmission after 25,000. I love my 2006 saturn. It now has 45,200 miles and I have just under $76,000 in it. Also, I got the whole car painted because there was a few rock nicks in the hood and a cart at walmart put a 3 inch scratch on the passenger door. I forgot to mention the tires. I change those every 6000 miles or sooner if I hit a big pot hole. Then this stupid mechanic said I should change something called a rack and pinion, I think he was making that up but I did it anyway, better safe than sorry. Dude charged me 1150 for something I think just might be fake. Anyway, I did some other things like the head liner inside the car, it wasn't coming down, just wanted to make sure it wouldn't. Oh, ya and the radiator had that flushed with every other oil change and had the radiator itself changed every 12,000 miles. This thing drives like the day I bought it. Seriously can't tell a difference from day one.

How do you remove a inner door panel to replace a car speaker for a 2000 Saturn?
give up and get a new car is a stupid solution. what you should do is try to locate visible screws to remove on the door (you will have to use a Philip's head for them). if there are non, pop off the little speaker and window control (flat head srewdriver) and there are screws in there as well. i am currently replacing the speakers on mine and i am working on the backseat today, so I'll post what i find out as i go on with it.
