It means that you are broadminded, and don't just follow the current trends. It also means that you are more likely to give any new music you hear a chance to impress you, instead of automatically dismissing it as being different from what you like.

We would have to guess that you were getting something from the relationship that you do not want to acknowledge. Ask yourself, "what was in it for me." When you can answer that, you will know why it is hard to let go.
Can it be that you are most comfortable in that sort of situation? What were your parents like? Did they abuse you verbally and or emotionally, talk you down, etc.?

Theories on power and how it can be used and abused?
Power can be used to influence and lead others towards positive outcomes, such as driving change or advancing a common goal. However, it can also be abused when it is used for self-serving purposes, to control or manipulate others, or to maintain the status quo by oppressing or exploiting individuals or groups. How does one get over being timid?
I found and excellent set of books, MENTAL EFFICIENCY SERIES from Funk and Wagnalls Company. Published in 1915, it will do some online searching to find I suppose but it contains an excellent volume called TIMIDITY How to Overcome it.
The main point I got from the book was the recognition of one's worth wherein it is written "He does not realize that his being so uncommunicative makes it difficult to give himself the due credit for his knowledge and his intelligence."
So, it starts with trying not to be so self-conscious about what others are thinking about you as for the most part, most people are very self-centered and concentrating about themselves and not really overly concerned about others.
Realize that you are just every bit as good as others and that if you fear no one will like you or that they will laugh at you, relaize that everyone has had this fear one time or another. All it takes is a small smile and hello to open the world of new friendships and build a strong self-esteem. If a person does not respond, so what, move on and keep smiling. Soon enough you will find that people do respond to kind smiles and hello's. And soon will will find your timidity overcome and behind you.
What are the role of parents in developing your self-esteem?
The messages we receive from others can effect greatly the image we have of ourselves. As we grow up we become more individualized, meaning that we gain a sense of being an independent self with abilities and positive qualities. However before this sense of being a separate self is developed a young child is dependent upon his or her surroundings for their sense of self. Parents therefore will influence a child's self image. Positive reinforcement will instill positive self esteem from an early age. Just think about listening to an mp3 player. You could listen all day to a recording saying you are naughty, lazy, etc or you could listen to a recording telling you how talented and great you are. Parent's conversation and also their very tone of voice will effect their child on a sub-conscious level. Sarcasm, put-downs and negative talk will slowly seep in.
Parents of course bring up their children based heavily on how they themselves were brought up. There is a cycle. Parents act as models for their children. Whether parents model good behavior by positive attitudes, good re-enforcing compliments or model negative behaviors and use negative language, the child will also copy this behavior with their children and the people they meet during life.
Self esteem should be from your own understanding of your own talents and abilities. Parents can boost this or detract from this. Since we value greatly the opinion of our parents when we are young children, their approval or criticisms can last many many years. It is important to recognize how our parents effected us and how their imput still effects our self-image and self esteem in adulthood; boosted or held back by their 'modeling' as we grew up.

You have asked a simple question which unfortunately does not have a simple answer. I might begin with asking a question- what is a "normal person"? Is it the characteristics of the average of many people? If so, the average person doesn't exist- as "it" would have to be half male and half female.
Or perhaps a "normal person" is one that is well adjusted to the circumstances of life. I have included a link on what a person should do to be normal.
Perhaps those with average talents are above average if these talents are recognized by the individuals:
Note the following:
Fortunately for most of us, what it takes is something very simple and accessible: clear, written goals.

"An average person with average talent, ambition and education, can oustrip the most brilliant genius in our society, if that person has clear, focused goals."
