Shocks and Struts

Shocks and struts are important parts of a vehicle’s suspension. Shocks are designed to absorb the impact, while struts support the load of an object such as the chassis of a car. These components are designed to soften the ride.

Do you have to replace all struts when one is bad?

Doing one corner of the vehicle at a time, force one corner of the vehicle to bounce then let go, if the vehicle bounces more than 1 1/2 times after you let go the strut or shock is bad.

What is a strut?

Struts is an open source Web application framework developed as Apache Jakarta project

Struts is based on MVC (Model View Controller) framework. It is used to build Web applications based on Servlet and JSP. So Struts application is a genuine Web application.

Struts leverages J2EE design patterns that people find quite useful in building J2EE applications. Because Struts follows these patterns including MVC, Struts is relatively simple to use and learn.

A Composite View is a view built using other reusable subviews. A single change to a sub-view is automatically reflected in every composite view that uses it. Furthermore, the composite view manages the layout of its sub-views and can provide a template, making consistent look and feel feel easier to achieve and modify across the entire application. Struts has its own set of custom tag libraries. Struts also support

utility classes.

When you replace struts do you do a alignment?

NO

That depends on how the struts attach to the knuckle or control arm. On some front wheel drives an alignment is required.

What is a bump stop?

Will 1998 Thunderbird rear shocks fit on 1998 Mark VIII?

I think so, I have 97's on mine but I took the original mounting brackets and burnt the rubber off them and then just used the hardware that came with the shocks, they are Monroe sensa-tracs #5965, works great.

Lifes but a walking shadow a poor player That struts and frets his hour upon the stage And then is heard no more It is a tale Told by an idiot full of sound and fury Signifying nothing?

Macbeth says this, to the Doctor...or the Messenger. But it means that life is like a poor actor who stresses over his few lines, then dies and is never mentioned again. So while life is dispoable, items are not, they live much longer than a human's life, like a legacy. Life is meaningless, told by an idiot, full of noise and fury, which signifies nothing.

How Do You Replace the Struts for a 1996 Ford Escort?

AnswerNeed a spring compressor to hold spring in place Disconnect lower end from wheel spindle Disconnect top from tower and lower strut

This is one of the easiest replacements I've ever done - especially if you purchase one of those coil spring/strut assemblies (Ready Strut?). The assembly eliminates the need to have a spring compressor - 3 bolts on top, 1 big one at the wheel spindle/knuckle.

You'll be 30 minutes or less per side.

How do you change struts?

This is not a DIY job unless you have the proper tools. Severe injury can occur. Pay an expert to do it.

While removing the shock assembly from the coil spring is something that is dangerous and requires special tools and instructions. I just replaced all four struts on my 1999 Grand Prix with the Monroe Quick Strut. It comes fully assembled and it's just a matter of removing the wheels and a few bolts and putting the new ones in. Pretty straightforward for a DIY'er with some simple hand tools.

What causes a lot of bouncing in the front while slowly driving over a speed bump?

Typically, it's either shocks or struts, depending on which your car has. Shocks/struts absorb the resonance energy of springs. The PURPOSE of the shock/strut is to stop the wheel from bouncing when you hit a bump. Without the shocks, the wheel would continue to bounce, sort of like a basketball. When the shocks work properly the wheel is "dampened", keeping the tire in contact with the road and giving better control. The bonus is, the car doesn't bounce, the way you're describing. The good news is, they're not terribly expensive and they're usually not impossible for the DIY'er. But if you prefer, it's not terribly expensive, as auto repairs go. If you have someone do the shocks, have them check other suspension components at the same time. No point in replacing just the shocks if the whole front end is worn out.

Why would your car squeak while driving over bumps?

you probably need new shock absorbers or new coil springs.

you need to replace all 4 ball joints at about $20 a piece you'll probally be charged less than $125 to put them on. total$205. you will need a front end allingment after all front end work

How do you know if your strut mounts are bad?

I have a 1990 Chevy Lumina and when you hear clunking sounds when going over bumps or dips or if you have ever replaced your strut assembly you should replace the mounts. You can buy a quickstrut online for a lumina. Front is around $180 and rear is around $80. Hope that helps!

What does it mean when their is a clicking noise coming front the front right side?

You did not say what kind of vehicle it is. If it is a front wheel drive, it has drive axles and if the drive axle is going out, it will click especially when you turn the wheels.

Is it dangerous to drive with bad rear struts on my 2007 Nissan Altima?

a 2007 altima does not have rear struts. it has shocks and coil springs. if the rear shocks are bad and the car is bouncing up and down several times when you hit dips in the road or after you come to a stop your shocks could be bad and then yes it could cause you to wreck in certain situations. to test your shocks bounce the rear by pushing up and down several times real hard on each corner. after releasing the car it should only bounce 1 1/2 to 2 times before stopping. any more than this and the shocks may be bad.

What is the Polo mk3 3 chasis code?

How do you kown when you need rear shocks replaced on a 1995 sunfire?

Well, if you're experiencing a lot of bouncing when you go over bumps, it's time for new shocks. Excessive leaning in turns can be an indicator too. The old rule of thumb, is to push down hard on the fender (in your case, the rear fender) and let go after it goes as far down as it's going to. If it bounces up and down more than once or twice, it's time for new shocks. FriPilot
