Springfield was a trade name used by Stevens/Savage c. 1920-1945. No relationship to the current Springfield Inc or the US Springfield Armory.

What you have is a Savage Model 720 built under license from FN (Browning) They where also made by Remington with the Model 11 designation.

The Crackshot in .32 is often worth less than the .22 because of unavailability of ammo. But some collectors want the bigger bore. The Model 26 Crackshot will bring from $75 to about $225, depending on condition. Usual on-line auction price is in the $140-$170 range.

It's an American made rifle based on the British .303cal Pattern 14 Enfield. They were produced by 3 manufacturers: Winchester, Remington and Eddystone. Is that the serial # or model #? I have one marker 19HF on all separate parts. My thought was that is the model. But my other id # is 5000, so what are the odds we have the sane gun model 1oo units apart?... Value is $150-$250 depending on condition. Less if it is broken or rusted and a little more if like-new. The 5000 and 5100 are not serial numbers. I'll bet my JC Higgins 16 gauge looks just like your guns and it is also numbered 5100. Stevens introduced the Model 5000 (in 1923 or 26, depending on which reference you believe), changed the model number to 5100 in 1931, and then to 311 in 1941. This gun was manufactured until 1989. The Springfield name was discontinued in 1948.

The only date listed for the Stevens 94 in the Blue Book was 1929 The chart in the back of the Blue Book says 934,000 model 94's were made between 1926 and 1945. I don't know what was different about the A series or if the 94 was discontinued when the 94-A was introduced, but I'd wager it is some cosmetic difference that they could charge an extra dollar for and both were made during the same period.

On the receiver near the owl stamping there should be a shield with a year in it. For example '85'. Supposedly these carbines were only imported under the Iver Johnson brand name in 1985 and 1986. All others were Erma EM-1's. Erma manufactured both. Look for the stylized Erma on the forward left side of the receiver.

Easiest way to get a quick idea of how much your gun is worth is get on www.gunbroker.com, its like the eBay of guns. Then obviously put in the model of rifle and find out what they are going for. A rifle as you talk about would probably be worth 700-1000 dollars in my opinion depending on how the condition and finish is.

Are you sure it's a 940 and not 94-C? According to the Blue Book, Model 94's were made from 1926 to 1945. If you really need to know more exactly when it was made, you can get the Stevens historian's address from the Savage Arms website and send him $15.

I have a Springfield model 187S .22 LR (semi-Auto, tube feed).

Go to the Springfield Armory Web site and click on the link for their email address. Give them all the info about the 30-40 Krag that you can. They say they will answer in 3/4 wks. Springfield Armory is now a museum and if your gun was made at their company, they have the info you will need. Be sure to give all the facts. The serial no. who bought it, and where, if you know. Also, any strange markings on the weapon. I believe it's best to go back to where it was possibly made.

Most pumps and automatics have the serial number on the bottom of the receiver - just forward of the carrier. Over/Unders and the BSS have the serial hidden underneath the action lever. Push the lever to the side to break open the action and you will see the serial number.

The Springfield name was used by Stevens from 1920 to 1948.

What is the condition of the gun and the barrel length?

Depending on the condition of the gun, it can be worth upwards of $125.00. I have one that was past down to me in good condition. I wouldn't sell it because of the sentimental value. It is one of the most accurate guns I have ever shot though. Hope this helps.
