There WERE stamps in 1844. It would be from Great Britain or Brazil. Some of them are very rare and obviously not from the US government who started printing stamps in 1847. Take the stamp to an expert. You could consult a stamp catalog, usually found in your public library, to learn more about it and how to value it.

Many countries have an "ugly" policy, to made some "replica" in gold of stamp.

Prices depend on market, if someone is selling or buying. From my experience, that is more that 30 yr in philately - I never discovered real collectors market for material like this - but, real price are same like gold alone on market - in this case - it is worth almost nothing. Probably existed few collectors worldwide that collect "gold" stamp - but it must be very small and very specialized collector/s that will actually give You some real prices. Against, it depends on how much people want to spend for something like this "Gold" stamp.

British General "Gentleman Johnny" Burgoyne surrendered his army of 6,200 soldiers to the Americans at the Battle of Saratoga. He was tasked to split the New England states away from the 13 colonies, but after the British forces in New York City marched south to Philadelphia instead of reinforcing Burgoyne, his forces were surrounded by superior American troops. He unsuccessfully fought two small battles in order to break out before surrendering.

I think it is a nice stamp and I would certainly keep a nice copy for my collection. If you have more than one, maybe you can trade it for another similar stamp .

You might be able to get a few dollars for it from someone looking for World War 2 memorabilia. Book 4 was a sort of catch all for things like tires and shoes and not one used often.

A few dollars to the right collector. Everyone that lived in the US was issued ration books, so they are pretty common. Finding one with a lot of stamps left in it is much harder. That would mean that the person didn't use their stamps to buy goods.

The postage rate in 1960 was 4 cents. It was raised from 3 cents in 1958. It went to 5 cents in 1963.

Minimal value for this stamp indicates that the cost is in packaging and tracking and not the stamp itself. A dealer isn't going to be interested in purchasing a single copy. You would be better to use it for postage rather than trying to sell it. Or trade with another collector!
