What is a shiny wet looking all black snake in oklahoma?

Hard to tell for sure without seeing a picture, but it could be either a Black Ratsnake or a Coachwhip, neither of which is poisonous. But do not assume any snake is non-poisonous without a positive identification.

Can you die from laryngitis?

Very, very, very rarely, yes.

But most people would not believe that. The first writer said: the probability of someone dying from Laryngitis is about 0.01%.. Believe me.. Laryngitis is an inflammation in your larynx, typically resulting in huskiness or loss of voice.. I don't think that laryngitis can kill you, otherwise people all over the world would be dead right now, including some of the world's best singers.. Theoretically speaking of course.. You have to think about this, Laryngitis can't do anything to your larynx but cause it to inflame and cut down your voice a little. I'd expect nothing more of it. It's just like the common cold. No worries. (sic)

This information might not be too comforting to the hale and healthy man in Wales whose widow probably believed the same thing. So did he. He's dead, and yes, his laryngitis killed him. It's rare, but it can happen.

Here's how: Because the same passageway through which we produce voice sounds is that through which we breathe. In some cases of laryngitis, breathing becomes so obstructed by the swelling of the vocal cords that it is not possible to obtain sufficient oxygen; this rare result is called hypoxia from Acute Respiratory Distress Disorder. A good example of this type of laryngitis is that resulting from smoke inhalation during a structure fire. If you are ever exposed to smoke inhalation, get to the hospital ED even if you feel all right, because ARDS can develop very suddenly hours after the exposure!

What is the correct order for CPR?

The correct order of CPR steps according to the AHA are:

1. Check for responsiveness (gently shake patient and ask if they are OK)

2. Open the airway (gently lift chin)

3. Check for breathing (use the 'look, listen, feel' method)

4. If not breathing, give 2 rescue breaths

5. Check for a pulse at carotid artery for 10 seconds.

6. If no pulse begin 30 chest compressions at rate of about 100 per minute. (I sing in my head "Oh, oh, oh, oh, stayin' alive, stayin' alive"

7. After 30 compressions give 2 rescue breaths. Repeat the compressions and rescue breaths until EMS arrives or the patient tells you to get off their chest.

What method do you use to move a person you suspect has a spinal injury that is face up in the water?

You should always take spinal precautions for dive injuries.

Several people may be needed to keep the person floating on the surface, with one person at the head to maintain cervical spine position.

If a long spine board is available, it should be put in the water and moved underneath the patient. If there is not a long spine board available, leave the patient in the water until emergency crews can get there, unless there is a problem with the airway, breathing, or circulation (cardiopulmonary arrest).

The long spine board should float and hold the patient above the water. If it is not floating, there may be a hole in it from rough handling, so a different board should be used. Secure the patient to the board and get a cervical collar on before extricating from the water.

What do you do after a floods?

It's a challenge to survive a flood, but certainly not unlikely. It can be very probable that you will survive the average flood. But what are you to do after? Well prepare to do a lot of work.

1. Try to rescue any type of money, identification, credit cards, passports, etc.

2. Find adequate drinking water.

If the flood is large like the one that followed after Hurricane Katrina (United States) you may not be leaving for some time, but should it be a small one ditch the car (It's unlikely the car will get through the flood water anyways.) and try to find a store. There's EXTREME danger to leaving and walking in an area where you can't see what the ground looks like. (Fallen Power lines, Sharp objects, etc.)

In most cases common flood areas will be inhabited by people with equipment to survive the flood like several bottles of water per person, per day and freeze dried food or canned goods.

3. If you don't have these items scavenge what you can and STAY PUT. Most floods will have the government coming to aid civilians within 72 hours, 90% of the time. (I know what your thinking, what happens if im that 10%? Well then aim for looting supplies or having survival gear in advance in that scenario.)

4. Most flood scenarios you'll know what to do, I'd recommend getting survival gear such as Purification Tablets, extra water, canned food, matches and/or a lighter. (But there's tons more you may need.) Look for books or ask people if your worried about a future mass flood.

Does a level 1 first aid course cover rural area first aid?

From looking at outlines of level 1 first aid, it will cover only the basics and will not get into rural, wilderness, or outdoor care. It may cover the basics of burns, frostbite, and poisoning; but that looks more like a level 2. I am not familiar with the levels as these levels are not typically a US first aid designation.

Is prepping for the worst only a con to sell survival products using peoples fear?

Certainly there is money to be made - remember the elaborate 1960s bomb shelters? There are a number of people who truly believe the end is coming, or that they will have to defend themselves against those who do not have food etc. if a future catastrophe happens. The movement, often called Survivalists and now preppers has been around since the 1930's for several reasons. Economic collapse, nuclear war, and other sudden events could cut off food supplies, including clean water. In the past, the Mormon church recommended a year's supply, but currently recommends three months. Con or not, both food and water spoil over time, and so are expensive to collect all at once and may be a total loss. Most people would do well to learn how to survive with limited water, no electricity and no access to medications, using the Red Cross list. The other side of the movement, where people have collected firearms, ammunition and are ready to "bug out", is the other end of the spectrum. On some of the TV shows, it looks like hoarding. During one hurricane watch, I saw shoppers load up on more tuna than most of us eat in a lifetime. In life, nothing is certain, so you have to find a balance of being prepared and living your life with the resources you have.
