Tampons are a major cause of Bacterial Vaginosis - they provide bacteria with the perfect environment to multiply, effect vaginal pH, prevent vaginal cleaning, and many brands contain chemicals that effect vaginal flora - they can thus cause infection during menstruation and following menstruation due to long-term effect on pH balance. Using tampons when you already have an infection would potentially make the infection far worse, and significantly increase risk of TSS.

Your vagina walls are going to have small tears as a result of tampons drying-out vaginal mucus membranes so a big tug may pull at this causing discomfort. A big tug if you're not aroused may pull uncomfortably and cause pain in the vaginal muscles too. It's best just to gently and firmly pull out.
Why does absorbency matter when you use tampons?
Because how heavy or light your flow is determines which absorbency you need to use. If you have a heavy flow but you use a lighter absorbency tampon, it will leak a lot sooner. Tampons may be harder to find in certain countries where there are taboos about menstruation or where there are taboos about vaginal penetration/insertion outside of marriage. Some specialist stores may sell tampons or some stores may stock tampons if they are asked to do so, you may also order online. Tampons can also be homemade with cloth or you can use natural sponge as tampons.
