What is McAllister's Deli Sweet Tea recipe?
Here it is, after much trial and error I have found a recipe that comes as close as anything you will find.
Boil about a quart and a half of tap water or if you have a Bunn coffee maker, run a pot full of tap water through.
Add the hot water to a gallon pitcher, steep 3 family size bags of tea, Lipton or Luzianne (Lipton is a bit darker) for 5-10 minutes in the hot water.
Add 1/3-1/2 cup of sugar according to how sweet you prefer it and stir well until dissolved (I use 1/3 cup of sugar).
Add 2 tablespoons of lemonade mix and mix well (I use Country Time)
Add cold tap water to fill the gallon pitcher.
Are chai tea and thai tea the same thing?
Chai tea and Thai tea as we know it in America are most definitely not the same thing.
Thai iced tea is a strong black tea sometimes spiced with anise that is served sweetened with evaporated milk. It is readily available at any Thai restaurant. Chai tea is redundant as chai is the word for tea in India and many parts of the world. Usually Americans are thinking of Masala Chai when they speak of "chai tea." Masala means spiced. When you go to a coffee shop and order a chai, you're usually served a pre-packaged sweetened spiced black tea blended with milk. When you buy "chai" tea bags in the grocery store you're buying black tea with spices and flavors added. However, if you want a cup of Masala Chai as it is served in India, you want assam tea steeped in milk with your choice of spice added. Traditionally either cardamom or fresh ginger is added to the tea before it is heated, and the tea is sweetened to taste by the consumer. If you're making Masala Chai at home you can experiment with your favorite combination of spices. (consider vanilla, cinnamon, fresh or ground ginger, black peppercorns, whole clove, star anise, nutmeg, and even coriander or allspice)
I usually make my chai with soy milk and cardamom. I grind a few cardamom seeds with a pestle and mortar, add it to loose assam tea leaves in the bottom of a sauce pan. I cover the tea with water and bring to a boil, then I add soy (more soy milk than water) and continue to heat until it is steamy. If you're using regular milk you do not need to add water, just steep the tea leaves in simmering milk for a few minutes (3-5 min). Strain, serve, and sweeten to taste

Many people don't know the correct way to make tea.
Boil water
Put some of the hot water in the tea pot to let warm, then drain it out.
Put your tea bags (or fresh tea in a tea leaf strainer) and pour boiling water over it.
Put a "tea cozy" over the tea pot to keep warm. These can be bought Wal-mart or craft fairs.
Coffee perks, TEA STEEPS. The longer the tea steeps the stronger it gets. Just like cooking a steak rare, medium or well done, ask your guests how strong they like their tea.
Once you feel the tea is just right remove the tea bags.
Scottish people often would put a cube of sugar between their teeth and sip their tea that way. Others in Scotland would put their cream/sugar in the tea, stir and then put a little in the saucer and sip it that way.
The proper way to serve tea is in a tea cup. Most of us just use mugs now and that's fine, but if you are having older ladies over (70 and up) I suggest tea cups.
Additional tipsWhen making iced tea, I have found that filtering the tea through a strainer lined with a coffee filter greatly reduces the amount of sediment in the bottom of the pitcher. This especially applies to tea made with tea bags, since the ground tea causes the sediment in the bottom of the pitcher. This will also greatly improve the quality, taste and clarity of the tea, thus resulting in clear tea instead of cloudy.
