You will remember things that are important to you, interest you and things you do or use all the time. Other factors of things that will cause you to remember them is fear or pleasure. It is also easier to remember things if you see and hear them at the same time. That's why so many teachers use visual aids when trying to teach a class.

You have to write them. There are no written plans. Objectives and ideas are given in TM, but you have to plan the lesson. Lesson plans are the bones of a lesson. They state what the students are expected to learn (objectives), how they are going to learn it, and the expected outcomes. Within the lesson plans are also the state standards and the areas the lesson will cover in that lesson. A lesson plan is not one day, but for a week and each day builds on the next day so there is a progression of learning. When looking a month of lesson plans the reader should be able to see the goal of the teacher and how the students learn what they are taught.

Things in a classroom always go better with a plan. Your materials are ready; you can follow objectives for learning more closely throughout the unit. Many teachers can wing it after years of teaching, but it is a certain way to start loosening up on the standards and to become less of the teacher that you are. With the longer class periods for secondary schools, you need two or three activities each day to keep the students interested or on track. With just one, the students tend to believe they can do the easy work sometime in the future. If you want successful students, you want them to do the work in the classroom and then have some independent work at home.

My thought is that some people will always try to beat the system, because they like to solve that sort of problem. It isn't always due to lack of self confidence in what they know. So, in a testing situation, walking around through the class periodically (called proximity in classroom management), and having 2 or 3 different sets of tests so that no one is sitting next to someone who has the questions in the same order.

If you give a take home test, it should have the type of questions where it is necessary to analyze and synthesize the information in order to answer the question. If people come up with a word by word same answer, then you know. When teaching, my solution to that was to grade the paper once, and then divide the score between the number of students who turned it in.

The test should reflect the objectives you set up when you were planning the course and so nothing should be particularly a surprise to a student who has been attending to the learning experience.
