If the network is very basic but much is expected of the network then some people would classify the topography as weak. Appropriately designed and maintained networks are important when they do work and vital when they stop working.

A "Line Set" refers to the lines that run from the condenser unit in an air conditioning system to the cooling unit inside the house (this is where the blower is also located). Routers perform DHCP, which means the router acts as the "owner" of the network. If a router set it's own IP address to 192.168.1.1, then it will likely assign IPs to computers connected to it in the 192.168.1.x range. If you plug another router into your first router, the second router might have the IP 192.168.2.1, and then assign IPs in the 192.168.2.x range. This is what you want to avoid. Having all your computers on the same 192.168.x network is necessary.

You essentially want to use your second router as a switch. To do this, disable DHCP in the routers admin UI. Then, instead of plugging the source cable (coming from your first router) in the "Uplink" port, plug it into one of the regular 1, 2, 3, 4 etc ports. This will enable your router to pass along IPs from your main router, rather than assign it's own. Plug other devices into 2, 3, 4, etc. You've essentially bridged your routers.

Bus runs in a straight line from one network device to another. So if one gets disconnect then the all the devices connected down the line get disconnect.

Star runs to a central device like a switch, so if the switch itself fails then the whole network will be disconnected.

Ring is like a bus except it connects back onto itself. So if one device fails they all fail. The exception is if there is a redundant inside ring like that used in FDDI (fiber ring) then if both get disconnect from one device then they all do.

Mesh is high redundancy. Only one device would be disconnected if all the connections were to fail for that device. You can have many connections to other devices thats why its less likely to fail. The only cause for failure at this point is really the power and if you just don't have any. Even if one of the connections between two devices fail there is no effect on network and they can still communicate through other channels
