Turbo and Superchargers

Turbo and superchargers are engine components that pump pressurized air into the engine via a compressor. Their function is to increase the power generated by the engine by providing it with increased air pressure inside the cylinders.

Is a twin turbo better than a supercharger?

Twin turbos-

more power

more flexability

easier to upgrade, change boost levels

can get controllers to control boost by gear to maximize et/traction

but.. more complex to install, more expensive.

What is difference between turbo non turbo engine?

As an engine turns it sucks air in, which draws fuel with it.

In a turbo engine a fan (turbocharger) forces more air into the engine, which draws fuel with it.

The more fuel and air that goes into the engine the more power is produced.

A turbocharged engine can produce perhaps double the power that a non turbocharged engine produces.

What is the best turbo for h23 engines?

It depends on what you want to spend, is the motor stock and how much do you want to make. Most street kits run 6-10psi, especially if it is an automatic. You can save money a use a turbo from a car that had one from the factory(junkyard turbo).

Here are some that would work, and will still work when you get the itch for more power. These can run from 6-20psi. I placed them in the order I would go with.

What is a turbo transmission?

A turbo transmission is does not involve turbo in the conventional sense at all. A turbo takes exhaust gases straight off the cylinder head via a special exhaust manifold, and uses that air velocity to force air into the intake. This has a cost of having the incoming air to the engine hotter than what is ideal, but there is a trade off with any system. A turbo transmission, such as GM's turbo hydramatic, is merely a name GM assigned to the transmission. GM's Turbo Hydramatic 700R4 transmission was their first with an overdrive gear. This overdrive gear was a higher gear ration than previous transmission's 3rd gear and gave much better gas mileage on the street. So, a turbo transmission does not actually use turbo, it is just a name for a transmission with another gear for highway use. Turbo in this sense is just a name.

Can a turbo car be converted to non-turbo?

yes but you wil need good mechanical knowledge as you would need to do more than just remove the turbo and exhaust manifold

the look up what is needed to turbo a car and thing of the process in reverse

you wold need to remap the ECU remove turbo, the exaust piping would be changed to turn it in a non turbo and heaps or parts removed and replaced with non turbo parts

i would not advise anyone to turn a turbo in to a non turbo as you can have presure issues with the engine and ECU remaping can be hit and miss

Is a t66 turbo bigger than gt35 turbo?

Yes. However, the GT35 may make more usable power and be more drivable, depending on the engine size.

How reliable are turbo driven engines?

Turbo driven engines have more high-speed moving parts and so can be prone to wear and tear more than superchargers.

How do you super charge your 350 chev?

There are many supercharger kits for the chevy 350, need to search by yr/make/model.

Vortech, procharger have centrifugal supercharger setups.

B&M, Wiend, edelbrock, magnuson have roots style kits.

Kenne bell and whipple have screw type supercharger setups.

Just need to decide how much power you REALLY want and where in the power band. How much do you want to spend and which look and sound you you want. All have a different sound/noise and centrifugals don't have of idle boost like the others and are more top end oriented.

What causes a turbo charger to fail?

The two biggest killers are a lack of lubrication (lack of oil or broken down oil) for the bearings and debris coming through or around the air filter.

What is the difference between CDi and Turbo engines?

CDi is an acronym for Common-rail Direct Injection, which describes a particular diesel injection technology. Nearly every diesel engine equipped with CDi will be turbocharged.

Can a twin screw supercharger be installed on a 04 lancer es?

I would doubt its ever been done. It may be possible but it would cost a lot of money.

When a blow off valve is installed on a non turbo will it make a sound?

NO. deffinatly not. you need to have a turbo on you car! wow what a ricer

How does a turbo affect the operation of a diesel engine and what are the possible problems and effects to the engine when one goes?

the exhaust of the engine propels the turbo pushing the heated exhaust into the charged air cooler in which cools the air about 30 degrees before being thrusted into the intake manifold in which enhances the performance of the engine. If a turbo was to prematurely malfunction or fail due to lack of oil and antifreeze; it will blow apart sending shards of metal into the charged air cooler and maybe as far as the intake manifold causing internal engine damage. the end result will be no power and an engine sucked emty of all it's oil.

This is misleading. The exhaust gases are routed by the turbine side of the turbocharger causing the turbine wheel to rotate at speeds of up to 100,000 rpm. The turbine wheel is attached to the compressor wheel of the turbocharger by a shaft that is generally lubricated by engine oil and can be cooled by the engine oil alone or by engine coolant. Not all turbochargers have engine coolant routed to them. The compressor side of the turbo draws filtered air (not heated exhaust gasses) from the intake system and can pass it through a charge air cooler (CAC) which is an air to air heat transfer device, or possibly an inter cooler which is a air to engine coolant or air to engine oil heat transfer device, or even possibly no cooler at all. A turbo charger on a diesel engine does not operate as a power adder as it does on a gasoline engine. A turbo on a diesel engine works to match air to fuel and with the added air, more fuel can also be injected which is why turbo diesels can have more torque and HP. If the turbo starts to go on a diesel you will see losses in power and fuel economy. You may see oil in the turbine housing which means that a side seal is leaking, on the compressor side this can be a side seal or your air filter is plugged. They can come apart and send metal pieces into the intake stream possibly damaging your engine. The waste gate may malfunction and gate all exhaust gasses around the turbine never allowing it to spool up to speed therefor causing power loss. On newer diesel engines that have variable geometry turbochargers their are even more possibilities that have to do with the actuator (either a sliding nozzle ring (Holset type) or moving vanes (Garrett type)). These are computer controlled and that is another bag of worms. If you are having problems have a pro look at you engine before just replacing parts. Small and inexpensive problems can mimic a bad turbo.

Will there be turbo 2?

turbo was a great movie but there is no mention about it but if there are it takes most movies two years for a sequel like the amazing spiderman it took two years for the second one to come out and 21 jump street as well and so if there is a turbo2 it would probably come out on 2015-16

What is the best supercharger to install on a 1999 Chevy Tahoe 5.7?

Powerdyne twin screw ANSWER: Look closely at a ATI/Procharger. They have kits available with and without intercoolers and they have already been tested on your application. Prochargers are ajustable to some extent with different pulleys to make more boost. I run 8lbs boost on my stock Silverado and have yet to break anything. BIG difference in power, I can smoke a stock GT or Z28.

Exhaust valve smaller or bigger than intake valve in a turbo charged engine?

the exhaust valve will always be smaller as the piston is forcing the combusted gases out. The intake valves have to be bigger as the piston is only drawing the mixture in through sucktion.

What is the difference between a supercharger and a turbocharger in a car?

a supercharger is run by belt, turbocharger is run by ex. gases.supercharger is better

........actually it depends on the motor and what kind of turbo/supercharger you put on it,so neither is technically better than the other

What is the best aftermarket turbo for an evo ix?

depends on how fast you want it. you can go 37r with a set of 280's with ual 1000cc injectors. but it doesnt mean your going to be going threw a drive though getting some burgers with it. also how built is the evo you want the turbo for. i can give u names of turbos. but make sure 40 pound of boost wont blow your motor or tranny right out. stock evo pushes 18

Can you supercharge a '92 4-cylinder Mitsubishi Triton engin?

Theoretically you can supercharge any internal combustion motor. Practically, there probably is not much in the way of off-the-shelf parts available to supercharge a 2.4 litre Mitsubishi motor. In addition, the relatively small size of the motor (compared to many supercharged motors) means it would be difficult to achieve large power or torque gains.

If you really want to go down this path I would advise a turbo instead of a supercharger.

What Weight of oil for 7.3 turbo diesel engine?

it should take/call for 15w40.

alot of diesel truck owners like shell rotella t 15w40. you could also get the synthetic rotella t6 which is a 5w40 which is thinner than a 15w40 at colder temps if you live where it gets really cold, and you can go a couple thousand more miles before needing to change it out vs a conventional.

also i have heard great things about 5w40 mobil 1 turbo diesed truck(tdt)

and lastly amsoil is probably the best you can pour into that 7.3. the cost is a bit more but it really is a superb oil. its a real synthetic unlike American "synthetics". but you can look into that more if you like.

anyway you go you will be fine. the standard that motor oils have to meet make them all quality oils. the main difference will be change intervals.
