Even though you can not hear the fetal heartbeat until week 9 or 10. Ultrasound is able to see a beating heart much sooner. An ultrasound can pick up the heartbeat as a "flicker" in the chest as early as 4 weeks. I wouldent worry, by the 12 week the baby's heartbeat can be heard using a monitor. Do not worry if the baby is fine you will hear the heartbeat eventually. The important thing is that his little heart beats. When you hear it for the first time, it is the most amazing sound in the world. Feel free to ask your doctor these questions, even if you look like an idiot at least then you willl know. I just had a baby boy on May 21st, 2009. Way back when (at least it feels that way) when I had my second ultrasound, the ultrasound technician told us that we were expecting a little boy (which is what we had been hoping for!). I asked her how she could tell and she said that with a little girl, they look for a hamburger shape in the genital area, and with little boys, they look for a tiny 'turtle'. Sure enough, he had a little turtle shape, and sure enough, several months later, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. It is not NECESSARY to do an ultrasound at all, they have only been done for the last 25 years or so and women were having babies for thousands of years before them. Having said that..... If you are unsure of your dates or you have bleeding you may have an ultrasound for dating and to check you are not miscarrying at 6-7 weeks. There are blood tests done for genetic abnormalities and a test for Downs syndrome where the scan is done at 12-13 weeks. (this would be the 3 month scan) If everything is normal and you are not having these tests most women have a scan at 18-20 weeks as at this stage the baby is fully formed and all its systems can be checked. (This would be the 5 month scan). There are no guarantees that the scan will pick up ALL abnormalities as some just cannot be seen on a scan. You do not have to have a scan at all if you don't want to it is totally up to you if and when you have it.

It gives a date of June 13th. Was your last period August 24th/25th? Do you have a long cycle? I did and my due date from U/s was 10-12 days after my due date from last period. This is not really a problem unless you go into labour very early in which case your baby may be much earlier than expected. Term is considered 37 weeks to 42 weeks. So if you think you are having a 37 week (term) baby and it is really a 35 week (pre-term) baby, the staff may not be prepared.

Unfortunatley a non-viable pregnancy is a pregnancy that has occurred but for some medical reason will not last or carry to term... Such pregnancies could be that the embnryo implanted elsewhere than in the uterus and such... Sometimes it happens so soon in the pregnancy the woman doesn't even know she is pregnant... And know most pregnancies only spontaneously abort (or miscarry) because of a good medical reason...

A fetus responds very well to there environment. It's an act of god to have a child. Just let mother nature take its toll. Make sure you take you're prenatal vitamins, no drinking no smoking, only take things you're doctor says is ok. God bless

They are both compared with your date calculated from your last period. If you don't know your dates the BPD willprobably be used. You will probably have another scan to check there is good growth. It also depends when the scan is done,the later the scan the less the measurements correlate. You might also have a very active baby making absolutely accurate measurements difficult. 10 days is well within the margin of error for scans. Don't forget tht babies can be born anytime from 3 weeks before to 2 weeks after the due date so it is not set in stone.
