How many characters can you enter for duty MOS?

In the US Army, for enlisted personnel, all MOS have a total of nine characters. The first two digits are the Career Management Field, and are numbers, while the third is a letter which pinpoints your occupation more specifically - these three characters comprise your actual MOS.

The fourth character is a number, which is a Skill Level Identifier - 0 for a entry level trainee, 1 for Private through Specialist, 2 for Corporal (DA approved) and Sergeant, 3 for Staff Sergeant, 4 for Sergeant First Class, and 5 for Master Sergeant through Sergeant Major of the Army.

The fifth character is a Special Qualification Identifier, which is for any specialised training and skills you've achieved. For example, being parachute qualified, I had a "P" as my SQI. If you have no such identifiers, you're given a default "O" (the letter.. SQIs are always a letter).

The sixth and seventh characters are for Additional Skill Identifiers, which may be a combination of a number and a letter, or may be two additional skills each assigned an individual letter. If you have none, you get the default "OO".

Eighth and ninth characters are Language Identification Codes. If you do not speak a foreign language, you are again assigned "OO".

Does the Army still use the M1911 Pistol at all?

Absolutely. Though the standard issue weapon is the Beretta 92F, the Marine Special Operations Command routinely issues 1911's (not originals, but modified Kimber's, which are exceptional guns) to its Marines.

The 1911 is also used by other military members as either primary or personal backup weapons, for the same reason the 1911 was designed and issued 100 years ag. It simply has more knockdown power due to its lower muzzle velocity (870 fps) than a 9mm round does. While it might take you a few 9mm rounds to bring someone down (especially if they're on PCP or other stimulants) it usually only takes one or two .45 rounds to bring someone down.

Can a child become emancipated in Arizona?

They have the right to establish their own residence, consent to their own medical care, apply for loans, enter into a contract, to sue or be sued, etc. They do not have the right to do things which are restricted by age-for example, drink, vote, have sex (the age of sexual consent in AZ is 18), etc. Emancipation in AZ (or any state for that matter) is very difficult to obtain.

What was the Military Rank of Popeye the Sailor?

Popeye the Sailor Man came into existence under the Thimble Theater Cartoon Strip in 1919. This was right after World War I. So his uniform was modeled from that era. In 1894 the rank of chief petty officer was established. Chief's originally wore the same uniforms as the other enlisted Sailors, which are better known as "Cracker Jacks." It is interesting to note that the uniform specifications, except for the length of the Cracker Jack jumper, did not drastically change from 1894 through 1973. This is the Jumper you see on Popeye, except his has buttons and at times a red trim which are not regulation. At the same time a need arose to provide a distinctive cap and device for chief petty officers which would not utilize the eagle which was considered the symbol of officer rank. In 1897 we saw the incorporation of a chief's cap device similar to the present design, a gilt fouled anchor with USN superimposed in silver on a billed cap similar to what officers wore. Popeye wears a Chief's Cap but the cap color during this period of time should be the same as the uniform color being worn (white for white, Blue for blue, etc).

So the answer is the comic strip never really addresses his rank. He is either a Seaman wearing an improper cover or a Chief who who is not clear on the uniform regulations (unlikely!)...or an Able Bodied Seaman in the Merchant Marines who wore what ever he felt like.

What is the oldest known battle?

Most likely, shortly after the first humanoid figured out how to pick up a stick and use it as a weapon. That is, likely sometime well before civilization began, when humans were still hunter-gatherers. And, possibly well before humans (as a species) existed - there is very strong evidence to suggest that several ape species engage in warfare, which would almost certainly mean that pre-humans did too.

So, maybe as much as several million B.C.E.

Who was last surviving us general of World War II?

Admiral Arleigh Burke (died January 1,1996) was the oldest living Admiral of WWII. He was temporary promoted to the rank of Commodore (1 star Admiral) in 1944. In 1946 he reverted back to his permanent rank of Captain. However, he was again appointed a Rear Admiral in 1949. He served as the Chief of Naval Operations from 1955-1961, before retiring. A truly great Naval hero.

Who is higher in rank a Ph.D or a captain?

You are comparing apple and orange, which they cannot be compared.

There is a number of Ph.D. commissioned as a Jr. Lieutenants, and there are 95% of the Captains (O-3 or O-6) have no more than a master's degree. Education compliments promotion, but it does not ensure your success in the military. However, it cannot be denied one fact that there are correlations between good communication/critical thinking skill and good leadership, as these skills are horned through formal education.

Officership in military is largely determined by leadership and management ability, which required many years of experience working in various duties positions. Very advance scientific research projects are usually contracted to civilian scientists while an officer supervises the project.

Most doctorates (psychologists, physicians, chaplains, and scientists) in military start their career in the military at the rank of captain O-3, after they graduated from a professional institution.

Do people die of boot camp?

It has happened before, but it's really an uncommon thing to happen. For example, a soldier from Alaska gets to a BCT post in the South, and ends up drinking so much water that they flush the electrolytes completely out of their body. Stuff like that.

What brand of boot does the US Army use?

Any shoe company that manufactures in the US and makes boots could conceivably make military boots, because the Defense Logistics Agency puts out bids for boots on a regular basis.

Given that, most soldiers prefer to buy non-issue boots from the Clothing Sales store or an off-post military store like General Jackson's or US Cavalry because the issue ones...well, they're not all that comfy.

Can enlisted military members marry officers?

Only at the cost of their careers - any relationship of a personal nature is against regulations (related examples in regulations are dating, shared living accommodations, sexual relations, commercial solicitations, private business partnerships, gambling and borrowing money). The regulations are covered in both the Uniform Code of Military Justice (Article 134), Navy Regulations, and OPNAV Instructions (CNO Policy), which is the preferred guideline. It should be noted that it makes no difference if the members are from separate services.

Aside from long-standing tradition, it has always been found to be prejudicial to the rule of maintaining order and discipline, as it underrmines the military rank and authority structure. Having said that, the practice does occur in secret, and quite often couples will wait until one or the other has separated from the service to get married, at which point there's not much the military can do, unless it can (and wants to) prove that those involved were involved during their time in service together. The problem is that it's virtually impossible to keep such a secret while in the military, and the military does not look favorably on such relationships.

Marriage between 2 enlisted members or 2 officers is quite common, even between those of different services. My own wife and I were both sailors when we were married almost 33 years ago. There were few regulations concerning in-service married couples then, other than there were no guarantees about being stationed together. We were lucky; we only had to deal with 6 months being stationed apart before my wife was able to transfer to my homeport.
