How do you Bleed brakes on astra 1.7cdti?
You need
clean coffee jar with about an inch of clean brake fluid added to it
rubber tube that is a tight fit onto the bleed nipples
brake fluid
An assistant to press the brake pedal
top up master cylinder
place one end of the bleed tube on the nipple furthest away from the master cylinder
place the other end into the coffee jar below the fluid level slightly open the bleed nipple
get your assistant to gently pump the brake pedal until all air bubbles in the jar stop
when the bubbles stop get assistant to hold the brake pedal down to the floor
Tighten the nipple
assistant can now release pedal
do the same to the next nipple that is furthest away from the master cylinder
until all four brakes have been bled
do not press the pedal to try the feel of the brakes
before all 4 wheels have been bled as you will pump air round the system
when all are bled and the pedal feels good
get assistant to hold pressure on footbrake while you check for leaks around all the nipples that have been opened you assistant should make sure that the pedal does not creep while you check for leaks
I hope you find this helpful
best wishes
Mike

What gearbox is fitted to a 1999 Facelift T reg Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 LS Estate car?
It probably an F17. (or maybe an f17+)
The gear box number & type are stamped on the n/s end of the box, as visible from inside the n/s wheel arch.
However, they are stamped very very faintly. After a few years (months??) the small amount of surface corrosion the aluminum casings under-go will cause the number to vanish from sight.
To make them visible again you need some very fine wet-and dry sand-paper, some light oil, a light touch, and a bright torch. Too vigorous an approach will quite literally sand the numbers off for good. You also need to know exactly where to look. I suggest calling in at your local dealer so you can be shown exactly where to look.
if your reverse gear is at the top left then its the f17.

What does the lambada sensor do?
the lambda sensor senses how much unburnt fuel is coming through in the exhaust gases so that the ECU can regulate it and preserve the correct emissions, usually if the lambda sensor is faulty your EML "Engine Managment Light" will illuminate when the car is under load, eg, on a motorway, also, with a faulty lambda sensor there is a strong possibilty of failing the MOT test and also damaging your catalytic converter

Where is the fuse for the boot on Vauxhall astra?
If the boot will not open, and it is the "electric boot"....
Firstly, try to wash the windscreen using the washers. It is the same fuse. If the washers work, the chances are that the fuse is not blown.
The fuse can be found thus:
Open the bonnet.
Next to the battery (on the right as you look into the engine compartment) is a large black cover.
Open it up, you will need a screwdriver to gently release the clips, to see the fuse box.
In the fuse box are many fuses, and at the bottom of the box, closest to you, are two fuses. The red one is the boot/washers.
It can be the left or right one, as different cars have it on different sides.
Alternatively come to where I work, and I will change the fuse for free, because I am nice like that.
You need to give more information on engine before anyone can assist you with this!

What is car pass for a vauxhall?
It's a credit card sized bit of card with the key number, radio code and immobilizer code (Pin number for the alarm/engine immobilizer) on it.
You can get the info from any dealer if you show photo ID and proof of ownership. Do not pay more than £20 though. It will take about 48 hours.

Where is engine thermostat situated on 1993 l reg1.4 vauxhall astra?
the thermostat can be in one of 2 places (possibly depending on the cars age), either at the end of the thermostat housing, where the pipe from the radiator goes to the left side of the engine, this one is relatively easy to replace, to check if its this type you have just undo the jubilee clip holding the pipe onto the end of the thermostat housing, you should see it in the end if it is..
The other place, which is more likely, is behind the cam (timing) belt cover actually on the side of the block, meaning the cam (timing) belt and cover will all have to come off, and the bolts that hold the thermostat housing on are covered by the back piece of the cam cover.
when removing the cam (timing) belt, place marks at certain places before taking it off, tippex is good for this, then when rebuilding be sure to line up all of your marks otherwise the timing will be out and can damage your engine
9 times out of 10 on the later "phase 2" models (95-) it will be the 2nd type of thermostat and you will have to remove the timing (cam) belt and pulleys.
so when changing a thermostat it is usually good practise to also renew the timing belt and have a good check around the water pump to make sure the gasket isn't leaking
