Not necessary. If you are a green card holder and will be outside the US for less than twelve months (one calendar year) you will need your green card. Otherwise, you will need to apply for and receive form I-131, which you will need to present before reentering U.S.

Green card holders can travel abroad for a maximum period of 180 days on each trip. I am non EU passport holder and I'm going to marry a UK resident with British passport I want to know how long does it will take to get british passport once I'm married?

Well you will need first to apply an Entry Clearance (EC) visa by filling Vaf 4 form and you must include all supporting documents such as you marriage certificate, you and your spouse's passport, prood of your spouse tenancy agreement in the UK and employment status. Once you fulfill all the criteria of the EC Visa you will gain a two year propasionary visa which you will need to apply a Permenant Visa or some times called Indifinete Leave to Remain Visa with in the UK within 28 days before your 2 years propesionary visa expires and you will need to do Life in the UK test and will further need to keep at least 6 documentary evidence showing that you and your spouse receive letter in the same address for the past two years such us banking statement, council tax bills, BT bill, employment letter and any other letters that proofs this. Once your granted the Permenant Residence Visa you can apply UK Nationality after your in the UK for a minimum three years as your already married to a UK citizen and you will not need to do the the Life in the UK test. I hope that this is sufficient. Disclaimer I am not advising you on this matter but rather giving you my opinion of it and Please verify all the necessary information with your legal advisor or UK embassy. What embassy do you send a letter of invitation so that someone in Africa can visit Indiana on Christmas break?

My suggestion is to contact a travel agency since those agents deal with travelers between countries. Then, contact the government agencies the travel agents recommend.

I will say this would not be handled at the state level in the US. You would need to check through agencies in Washington, D.C. and in your own country, too.
