Volvo S40

The oil filter is located underneath the engine, passenger side.

You will see it in a black plastic housing. The Volvo S40 doesn't use a traditional metal style oil filter. You can order the filter from your Volvo dealer or K&N makes one as well, model # HP-7002. You will need a special wrench to remove the filter, you can order this from your Volvo dealer or from Amazon.com (search for Volvo S40 filter wrench), made by AST/Assenmacher, cost is roughly $14.00.

unlock all of the doors, either on your key or from inside the car by pressing the unlock button manually. you have to press it twice to unlock all of the doors.

in my 2007 s40 the fuse panel is located above the passenger footwell hidden behind the cloth trim.

You might want to check your light switch, and check under the hood for any other reated fuses if u haven't already

The 2006 Volvo1.6 liter engine IAT sensor can be found between the air filter box and the top of the engine. The IAT sensor will be attached to the air intake hose.

The thermostat housing is located on top of the engine, of passenger side where the top radiator hose is clamped.

If you want to change it,

Drain coolant enough to at least empty pressure at top radiator hose. Save coolant in a container. Use a T-40 torx drive socket to remove the two bolts, be careful you don't damage threads. Remove the housing then remove old thermostat. I recommend replacing coolant temp sensor at same time, it is located underneath thermostat and is threaded into the thermostat housing. Both parts together will cost about $80-85 from your Volvo dealer. (Volvo Thermostat part # 271664, Volvo Coolant Temp. Sensor/IAT Sensor part # 9125463)

Use sealant (Water Pump & Thermostat Housing RTV Silicone, cost around $3) around match surfaces of housing with new thermostat in place. Carefully seat the housing and carefully thread the mounting bolts to seat the housing. When a little sealant escapes around the edges and bolts are tight STOP, do NOT over tighten. It doesn't have to be torqued on there the sealant will heal around the surfaces and bond the mount in place.

Reconnect sensor and reconnect top hose.

If you are going to drain the system, remove radiator drain plug it's located there at the passenger side of radiator and refill system.

Test for leaks Your done.

Tools needed:

Flat blade screwdriver (to remove hose clamps)

Socket wrench

T-40 torx drive socket

19mm open end wrench (to remove Coolant Temp. Sensor)

Drain Pan (to catch spilling coolant)

50/50 water/coolant (optional, if you are going to change coolant)

The valve cover ask it, on a S 40 Volvo, can be replaced by first removing the valve cover. Remove the old gasket and replace with a new gasket.

Use the door key to cycle the driver's door through a couple of lock and unlock sequences. This should reset the alarm.

Trouble code P0750 means: Shift Solenoid A

The low pressure port of the A/C system usually has a blue or black dust cap and is located either on the larger diameter metal tubing typically found between the evaporator and compressor, on the compressor itself, or on the receiver drier (orifice tube systems only). The high pressure service port is found either on the smaller diameter tubing or the compressor and is larger in diameter. Only charge through the low pressure port. There is a web site with a lot of help full information about your auto a/c system and will give you a pinpoint locations of both your high and low side port check the link below.

I regularly have this every 4 yrs or so the transmission selector bushes need renewing cost approx 50 to 70 pounds , classic signs are difficulty selecting the reverse or 5 th gears initially not sure waht happens later as i change the bushes at this stage

Grab a can of WD40 and stick the straw in between the button and the casing and give it a few squirts... Wipe up with a paper towel and work the button a few times... Should loosen right up. At least it did for me.

It is located to the right of the gas pedal. Remove the center console panel.

You might have to remove the gas pedal to get at it.

Check the wheel bearings

if it is only when you turn, you may want to check the backing plate as if it gets bent or warped, it can rub on the rotor as you turn. I had that problem, and a simple bend into shape and it was fixed.

The battery on a Suzuki Boulevard 800 is under the seats. The seats need to be unbolted and removed, then the battery can be pulled out.

How do you remove the inside driver's door panel on a 2000 Volvo S40?

My service station quoted this as an 9 hour job (labor only) because I have a small leak in one of my cylinder head gaskets. Not sure if their estimate is accurate, but that's what they quoted.

sometimes after replacing the battery you have to adjust the Johnson rod i have the same vehicle when i replaced the battery i just pulled the rod a little and since i have had no problems

Is there another name for a Johnson rod as my car is doing the same thing. My dad has looked at it he has been a mechanic for 40 years and has never heared of a Johnson rod. The problem is driving him mad as he can't fix it for us.

...on the handlebar, right hand side. You have to have the push the orange switch forward (top part of switch pushed in), and then 2 buttons below that you have the actual start switch. Also, you must be in neutral and/or have the kickstand UP.

It is on the rear undercarriage of the vehicle, passenger side. Not too far from the muffler. Held in place by a clamp and a torx screw to lock the clamp in place. A17mm open end wrench is useful in prying off the hoses.
