When should you replace the timing belt on your 2000 VW Beetle?

Approx every 60000 miles. Keep in mind that this is a critical repair. Without getting too technical, if the timing belt breaks, the piston can stike the intake or exhaust valve, bending it. If that happens the cost to repair that damage is between $2500 and $3500. The cost for a timing belt should be about $350 - $450. Most of that will be labor charge (the belt itself is only about $80) however this not really a do it yourself repair.

Has anyone had Problems with the VW fox?

Yes, I have a 2006 VW Fox, and there seems to be a problem where sometimes the lights will not switch off, no matter what you try.

The only way I have been able to sort this out is to pay the garage to fix it for me, and it only seems to be main dealers that can fix this!

How do you replace the fuel accumulator on a 1988 volkswagen fox?

Park vehicle on level surface. Chock wheels, jack passenger side rear of unit and place on jackstand. Using 13mm socket remove the 4 nuts holding the fuel pump, fuel filter and accumulator bracket as a unit from the body. Lower the bracket, don't over stress the lines or wires. Loosen the 2 banjo fittings in the accumulator. Loosen the strap that holds the accumulator body to the bracket, 10mm. Maintain the same in and out relationship, install the accumulator. Install the banjo fittings, tighten to 6-9 footlbs. Run the engine to check for leaks. No leaks? Re-install the unit onto the body.

How do you set the timing on a 1989 VW Fox?

You can set it by ear by loosening the distributor hold down bolt and turning the distributor slowly back and forth with the car running until it sounds like it is running better. Or you can remove the 27mm hex plug on top of the transmission to reveal the timing marks and hook up an inductive timing light and set it that way.
