There is sring clip on the front of the seat on the right hand side (if you are sitting on the seat your right hand side). Move the seat as far forward as you can and then with a scredriver press the clip towards the floor. You will need a light to see this clip. Remove Seat belt ignition interlock vw?

For all you whippersnappers, the device of which our friend speaks was designed to keep people from driving without their seat belts on. You couldn't start the car without buckling up, and it was federal law to install it in 1974 cars. The schematic for wiring around it is in the Bentley manual.

Will overfilling engine oil have any effect on the catalytic converter?

Your biggest problem with overfilling the engine is not damage to the converter but damage to the engine itself. Overfilling causes the crankshaft to make contact with the oil. This will cause a situation where air will be mixed with the oil. This air mixed with the oil causes the oil to lose it's lubricating properties as air is a poor lubricant. This will cause the engine to overheat and will result in severe wear to all moving parts within the engine. If you overfill the engine drain the excess oil out immediately.

What is the red G warning light on a 1971 beetle?

It is for the Generator (or Alternator). If it comes on while you're driving, it usually means the fan belt broke. If you do not pull over to the side of the road right now and put the new belt you carry - you should ALWAYS carry a spare fan belt!!! - on the car, your engine will melt because the cooling fan is bolted to the end of the alternator shaft.

How does accelerator cable connect to gas pedal on 1974 vw super bettle?

There's a Z-hook on the end of the cable that goes to the front of the car, and a plastic arm with a roller on it that the gas pedal pushes on. (If there isn't a metal hook on the end of the cable, you need a new cable.) You just work the hook through a hole in the side of the arm, and you're done. You will probably need to unhook the cable from the carburetor to get it to hook up at the front of the car, though.
