What do you mean "wiping it" and "reboot"? Are you saying that you want to reinstall the Operating System without having to format your hard drive? If that's the case, then yes (if you're using Windows XP--I'm not familiar with other OS's).

Put the Windows disk into your CD/DVD player. When it asks you what you want to do, close that window. Restart your computer with the disk in the drive.

If the CD/DVD player is set to have a higher priority on the boot device list than the hard drive that Windows is on (found in the BIOS settings), it will ask you if you want to boot from CD (or something). Choose to do so.

At some point, it will ask you if you want to install Windows or go to the Console Recovery. Choose to install Windows.

Then, it will ask which hard drive and directory you'd like to install Windows to. Choose the one that you were using before. It will detect the old copy, and ask if you'd like to Repair or Replace it (I think). Choose Repair.

That should install a new, uncorrupted copy of Windows over the old one. If you're doing this because you have some sort of malware, make sure you disable System Restore before you bother with this. Also, you may be so FUBAR'd that you have to install Windows onto a different hard drive, and boot from there.

You might want to go to the forums at majorgeeks.com if you have malware. Those guys are brilliant, and would have a better idea how to fix your problems.

P.S. To access the BIOS, watch the first screen that pops up when you turn on your computer. Somewhere on there should be a note that says "press <some key> to enter the BIOS". It's usually the del key, but is sometimes one of the function keys.

I mean i have some nasty data quarantined and would liked it removed so i click on remove and the computer says in order to carry out this task you must reboot but i am worried that if i reboot it will wipe my computer plz help

It is simply not compatible with your current version or OS. Or it may be due to corrupt sectors in the drive making a read error and making it display that message.

Windows XP Pro is not a program, it is the OS (operating system), as such it will not be found in Add/Remove programs unless you have upgraded from a previous OS such as 98. If this is the case do this to uninstall XP.

Mac OS X does not have the thumbnail option that gives you the four picture preview found in the Windows operating system. To view the contents of the folder one could:

Drag the folder to the right hand end of the Dock and click on it.

Open a Finder Window and navigate to the folder. Using the Cover Flow option presents a pane at the top of the window from which you can scroll through the folder's contents. If am item is a movie point the mouse towards the middle of the image and you can play the movie within the Cover Flow pane. Using the Column view option will show the contents in a separate column. In either option hitting the space bar as you scroll through the list will give you a Quick Look preview of the item.

Having said that... Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) does have an x-ray feature which reveals the contents of a folder when you select it and press the space bar for a Quick Look preview. This is switched off by default so needs to be activated by entering the command....
