It is uncertain how many donkeys Simpson used. Most information suggests he had just one or possibly two, calling it/them by the name of 'Murphy', 'Duffy', and 'Abdul' at various times.
It has been suggested that his first donkey was known by the above names, but there is strong evidence that he found and tended a second donkey, naming it 'Queen Elizabeth'.
John Simpson Kirkpatrick and his donkey Duffy (the most popular name) are legends. They are honoured and remembered as part of the ANZAC tradition.
Who was involved in unrestricted submarine warfare?
With the British blockade, it became hard to get supplies to soldiers, as well as many other issues that were made hard for germany. So they developed a devastating new weapon that they called "u-boats". These were armed with devastating torpedoes which could destroy neutral shipping and passenger liners. In a twist, something that made militaristic sense contributed to there own loss, since the American citizens and ships affected by this type of warfare, along with the Zimmerman tellegram, persuaded them to join the war.
What was the name of the alliance in WW I of Germany and Austro-Hungary?
Prior to World War 1, the alliance between Germany, Austria, and Italy was known as the Triple Alliance, which formed into an alliance between Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire.
Prior to World War 2, Austria and Germany unified into a single German state in a process known as Anschluß, or unification.
What was Serbia's goal in World War 1?
One of the main things they wanted was Hungary, because they felt it belonged with them as it was a Slavic country.
What caused the US to get involved in world war 2?
To place any blame on the outbreak of World War Two on the United States is placing blame on the wrong nation. If Great Britain and France knew their policies of appeasement would fail to satisfy Nazi Germany, then they would have taken advantage of German military strength long before it became a vital threat. The Treaty of Versailles was a bad treaty, it added later on to German nationalism and eventually to Nazi fascism.Imperial Japan, whose emperor was treated as a god, already had problems just by it's own making. The emperor and his military dictators could have prospered as it does today, by using their skills at making war, to skills for building consumer products to compete in the world.
Stalin, dictator number 2 in cruelty, chose to make a treaty with Hitler, dictator number 1. We can charge off Mussolini, he gained by his alliance with Hitler, and when it came to war, Italy did little to threaten any nation, except for poor underdeveloped ones.
What were the typical contents of a World War 1 soldier's backpack?
Some of the things a typical "Tommy" would have carried into battle: Rifle, bayonet, entrenching tool, water, personal ammunition, gas mask, mills bombs, bedroll, machine-gun ammunition, rations, greatcoat, underclothes, paybook, bandage, mess tin.
Who created the United Nations?
From the 21st of August to the 7th of October 1944, representatives from the US, UK, France, USSR and the RoC met at Dumbarton Oaks to discuss founding the United Nations. Eisenhower was instrumental in this creation.
At the United Nations Conference on International Organization or the San Francisco Conference in 1945, the Charter was finalized, and had representatives from 50 allied nations.
There were 51 founding members of the United Nations:

Did Spain take part in World War I?
No, she did not take part in World War 1.
She somehow took part in World War II during 'Spanish Civil war'.
The Marshall Plan was presented in a meeting to the United Nations and Europe. The Marshall Plan provided assistance and loans to the desperate European nations.
How did the US react to the beginning of WW1?
Early on in WW 1 most Americans viewed the war as an example of why the US should not involve itself in European wars. The secret treaties, the chaos and alliances formed all encouraged Americans to not want to be involved. Later, due to German submarine warfare, and anti-German propaganda, many Americans saw the war as democratic nations at war with despotic ones. This gave Americans a more favorable view of the western Allies. This allowed for the entry of the US into that war, especially the non restricted German submarine policy.
Who was the leader of the British forces during World War 2?
The British had a number of theater commanders but Winston Churchill was the overall commander of all British forces - look to the related link below for additional information regarding the different commanders .
In 1882 Italy allied itself with Germany and Austria-Hungary to form the Triple Allaince because of riavlaries with France in North Africa (in the Tunisia-Libya area). The decision may not have been based on a thorough appraisal of Italy's interests. From Italy's point of view, the main problem with the alliance was that the country had claims on territory held by Austria-Hungary (South Tyrol, Trieste and hinterland and parts of the Dalmatian coast). Italy went to war against the Central Powers in 1915, fought ineffectively and became something of a liability to the Entente. Although nominally one of the "Big Four" at the peace conferences, Italy got very little. Worse still, by the end of WW1 it was suffering from severe inflation and labour unrest. Church and state were at loggerheads and there was widespread fear of Bolshevism. Italy had won a war that it couldn't afford to fight. In 1922 Mussolini and his Fascists seized power.
Why did alliances cause tension in world war 1?
the alliance system caused world war one fear because if one nation caused war with a country that meant that the whole alliance was at war too. It caused suspision because suspicion with countries because some countries believed that there were secret agreements that existed between countries.
What is the three causes of World War 1?
Greediness, lack of food and a whole lot of weapons that needed to be used
What was the Battle of Tannenberg?
This was a major battle fought in East Prussia between the invading Russian army and Germany from 17 August 1914 - 2 September 1914. It was arugably the most spectacular and clearcut German victory of World War 1. However, the Germans had not expected Russia to attack so early and theymoved troops eastwards from the Western Front, which may have played a part in the failure of the Schlieffen Plan. It was at Tannenberg that Hindenburg and Ludendorff first became known to the wider German public, though most of the planning was done by Colonel Max Hoffmann. Hindenburgbecame the 'myth of Tannenberg'.
What types of jobs did women do during World War I?
The women's jobs outside the factory in world war 2 were to be housewives and take care of their children and supply food on the table for themselves and their children. Some of them could've taken up sewing as a ladies job and wasn't classed as a labor job that men were usually doing to earn some money for food.
Why do countries make alliances?
Countries have allies as a kind of back up when ever their country are having problems (Example War invasions) the country that has agreed to allie them have to step in to help them out. The alliance system dragged lots of countries into World War One.
