What was the Edmonton auxiliary fire service organisation?

During the late 1800s to 1960s, women often formed adjunct organizations to support the work their husbands performed. For example, the Women's Postal Workers Auxiliary was formed in the mid-1960s. So some woman's husband worked for the Edmonton Fire Service (Edmonton Canada??). The Women's organizations held meetings, sought to have laws made to protect the employees, petitioned Representatives, Senators, Governors, etc., held fund-raisers, etc. Each organization could establish other chapters for other related service workers. Many of these women's groups only lasted between one to six decades, and faded into history as more workers formed and joined unions. As well, women's roles shifted. No longer did they just support their husband's job, women also became employed. By the way, no husbands have ever formed an "Auxiliary" organization to support the employment of their wives or other females!

Why were bananas rationed in world war 2?

U.S. soldiers were given Hershey's chocolate bars in rations. It was considered a great snack for boosting energy.

Actually the exact opposite is the case. Not withstanding Hogan's Heroes where bribes are routinely paid to Shultz in the higly prized "AMERICAN CHOCOLATE", the real bar provided to American troops in WW2 was a special order bar bearing no resemblance to a chocolate bar any of us would buy at a store. It in fact was so bad, so difficult to eat, and so hard on the digestive system, that it was a useless product for the most part.

You must remember that his chocolate bar was an US Military design, not a Hershey design (it was produced by Hershey Chocolate). The US Military wanted an emergency rathion, not a treat for the soldiers and so they put forth a set of requirements for the bar among them being:

1) the bar must be temperature resistant so that it would not melt in the field

2) it must provide approximately 1800 calories

3) it must taste only slightly better than a raw potatoe

Yes, these were the requirements of the bar. The thinking was that if the bar tasted even remotely good, then soldier would eat the bar anytime they wanted a treat, rather than saving it as an emergency ration. Unfortunately, Hershey was too good at its job. The bar was indeed temperature resistant to about 120F., it did provide the requested caloric quantity, and it tasted bad, was hard to eat, and caused indigestion on most occassions.

As a result, the bar was pretty much a failure, for the army, and a great success to Hershey. Hershey received no less than five awards of Excellence from the US Govenment for the bar and its variations over the years. But in the field the bar was rarely eaten and instead was either thrown away, or if possible traded to anyone who did not yet know how bad it was for anything more palatable.

In the defense of Hershey Chocolate, they did indeed to a some excellent work with the bar. They met the requirements the US Military put to them. In the processes they had to invent an entirely new way to make chocolate bars. And they did over the years by request, make several attempts to improve the bar in various ways. They even made it resistant to poison gas at one point through its packaging.

To recap, the LOGAN bar as it was called in WW2 is nothing like a "real" chocolate bar and was not enjoyed by anyone.

Men are better than women in rugby but in what way?

Men are not better than women, nor are women better than men. They are different and cannot be accurately compared.

While women are pound-for-pound stronger than men, men are usually bigger, and therefore will be stronger, which of course is a desirable trait in rugby. Having said this, women's rugby is considered by some to be a purer form of the sport, owing to the fact that they tend not to rely on brute force (although there are undoubtedly some female players capable of doing this) and instead rely on skill.
