What is the difference between Butterfly and Breast Stroke?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The butterfly is most likely the hardest for most people because it requires you to keep and move your feet in a whale-like manner while lifting your arms in and out of the water. Meanwhile, the breaststroke only requires you to move your feet up, out, and together and your arms to move like you are searching for something.

But a simularity is that both strokes have the same turn

Is there a difference between baseball and softball helmets?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There really is no need to wear a helmet if you're just watching. Foul balls do sometimes pop over fences, but most parks have nets and it is unlikely you will get hit by a ball.

If you are playing, it is necessary to wear a helmet while batting.

Is there any rule that prevents an ambidextrous pitcher from throwing with either hand to the same batter?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No.

More info on the rule

Harris, (pitched with both hands as an Expo in 1995) was with six clubs over a 15-year career. When he was with Boston, word of his odd talent got out and Bobby Brown, the American League president, gave umpires these rules: The pitcher must indicate which hand he intended to use. The pitcher may change arms on the next hitter but must indicate the arm to be used. No warm-up pitches between the change of arms and if an arm is injured, the pitcher may change arms and the umpire must be notified of the injury. The injured arm cannot be used again in that game.

addition:

earlier this year in 2010 in a minor league game there was a situation with an ambidextrous pitcher who was pitching when a switch hitter came to the plate. After about 15 minutes of the pitcher switching hands and the batter switching sides of the plate, it was determined that the pitcher must declare which hand he will pitch with, and cannot change until the next batter. It is now a rule for MLB

What do Numbers on golf balls mean?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The numbers are on the balls, so two or more players who like to play the same type of ball can do so without the risk of confusing their ball with someone else's. e.g. if two players like to play 'Titlest' - both can, as long as each player declares, and uses, a different number Titilest. A box of new balls typically comes with 4 sleeves; numbered 1-4 or 5-8. Each sleeve contains 3 balls with the same number. You see, hitting another player's ball, and not your own, is a 2-stroke penalty. As an added precaution, in addition to playing different numbered balls, some players will also make their own distinctive marks on their balls; marks that can be seen no matter how the ball may be lying.

Expensive golf balls are nicer to hit, the feel softer and give more feel when you are putting and pitching. Is an air-soft gun the same as a pellet gun?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No. First off, airsoft guns are chambered in a larger calibre, they're around .25" ( 6mm ). Modern BB guns are all .177 caliber. Pellet guns can be .177", .22" or .25", but bb's only come in .177 ( unless it's a real oldie which might be in .22 ) Second, airsofts all only shoot plastic balls or paint capsules. .177 BB's are copper plated steel the and the .22's are lead, and most BB guns will shoot the hourglass shaped lead pellets as well as BB's. Finally, airsoft rounds are propelled by a 'hammer" coming up and slamming into the round which drives it out the end of the barrel, BB's are always (so far as I know) propelled by a burst of air.

What is the difference between a muscle cramp and muscle strain?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Muscle pain can stop you in your tracks. But is it a cramp or a pulled muscle that's bothering you? Though the terms are often used interchangeably, they are not the same thing. Understanding the difference between a cramp and a pulled muscle can help you to treat the injury more effectively and get you back to peak performance.

What is a Cramp?

A cramp in a muscle is caused by an involuntary spasm or contraction. It is usually sudden, can cause significant pain and can limit the use of the muscle for a short period of time.

A cramp will present as a knot or hard spot in the muscle.

Cramp Causes

Cramps are usually caused by problems such as overworking a muscle, poor hydration, electrolyte imbalances, insufficient blood flow to the muscle or nerve compression.

Cramp Treatment

While cramps are painful, they are usually temporary and are easy to treat at home. Stretching the muscle, staying hydrated and resting the muscle will generally resolve the problem quickly.

What is a Pulled Muscle/Muscle strain?

A pulled muscle is actually a tear in the muscle tissue. This occurs when the muscle is strained to the point where the muscle is damaged. The more significant the strain, the more the muscle can be torn.

Pulled Muscle Causes

Pulled muscles are usually the result of not preparing the muscle for work through proper stretching, placing too much tension on the muscle or over-using the muscle. Soreness in the affected muscle is usually the first symptom. Using the muscle will be painful and difficult. In severe pulls, bruising may be present. The affected muscle will become very tender to the touch and some swelling may occur.

Pulled Muscle Treatment

Because the muscle tissue is actually damaged, it takes considerably longer for a pulled muscle to heal, often taking from four to six weeks for full recovery. Treat a pulled muscle with rest, a cold pack to reduce swelling within the first half hour of the injury occurring, and heat after that time to stimulate circulation. Anti-inflammatory medications can also help. As the healing process progresses, careful stretching and strengthening of the muscle can be helpful. In some severe cases, surgical repair may be necessary

If you swing and ball does not move is it a stroke?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes. From the Rules, available at www.usga.org: "A "stroke'' is the forward movement of the club made with the intention of striking at and moving the ball, but if a player checks his downswing voluntarily before the clubhead reaches the ball he has not made a stroke" So if you intended to hit the ball, it's a stroke.

Personally, I don't like that rule. I don't think it should count if the ball doesn't move. But I don't make 'em up, I just tell 'em.

Answer by FutureLPGAgolfer

Yes, it counts as a stroke if you swing and the ball doesn't move.

Are there differences between golf balls?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Tennis balls are geared for different court surfaces. There are tennis balls specifically designed for clay, hard court, and grass court surfaces. Check on the outside of the tennis ball can for the type of court surfaces you should use them on. For example, some tennis balls are specificially made for clay court surfaces. Some tennis balls work on hard court surfaces both indoors and outdoors. Check out your local sports store for many different brands. You also want to make sure that the balls you are playing with are "flat". Tennis balls lose their air pressure after you play with them. You can keep them in a special pressurized tennis ball can, but these are not used very much anymore. Make sure to open a new can of tennis balls when you hit the tennis course for a match. In fact, this a rule in tennis tournaments and leagues. You can squeeze the tennis ball to determine if it is flat. If you can easily squeeze it then it is most likely flat. Or you can bounce the ball to tell. Old tennis balls should be thrown away if they have lost most of their fuzz as well.

What is the difference in a small forward and a shooting forward?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Small forwards are basically shooting guards that are too tall and slow to play the shooting guard position. Small forwards tend to be good shooters and in some cases great scorers. Every player is different. For instance, Peja Stojakovic played small forward and is one of the greatest three point shooters to play the game. John Salmons is also a small forward and is more of a scorer than a shooter. LeBron James, the second greatest basketball player of all time, plays small forward and dominates as one of the most powerful guys in the league who is also a stunning scorer and can make any shot.

More info:

  • Vary in mold. Taller than shooting guards but not as big as power forwards, these players are often very versatile, and can either shoot well from long range or get near the basket and get rebounds, etc.
  • Forwards are some of smallest players on the team. Usually plays around the wing or corner and usually drives along the baseline. Should be a solid rebounder. A good runner. A hard driver and a good passer.
  • Very much like shooting guard, usually starts lower on court.
Example of a small forward: LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Larry Bird
