Answer 2
There is no way the Taliban can be considered "good". They were women haters. Girls were not allows to go to school. /women had to covered in black from head to toe, including covering their faces. Women could not leave the house without a male relative. Women could not work, even if there was no male member of the household to provide for them. Men had to wear their hair and beard to precise orders. Music and dancing was not allowed. No opposition was allowed. No freedom of speec,h press, assembly, etc. The Taliban were ruthless. Public hangings and stonings were common.
Men who join the Taliban are the worst of sadistic psychopaths. They enjoy violence, murder, and keep the population terrified. There is no Muslim country that wants the return of the Taliban.

Afghanistan's system uses a controlled economic system reminiscent of those near the end of the nineteenth century and at the beginning of the twentieth. By understanding the economic climate of the time you will be able to more clearly understand the sociopolitical climate of the middle east today. Western industrialization had taken a heavy toll on the environment; the air was turned chewy from black smoke that belched from chimneys and rivers became sludgy from putrid waste products from the manufacturing process. These manifold invasions of the environment were tolerated in the name of progress and production.

You can't claim that Taliban hate women. It is the practice and tradition in Afghanistan for woman not to work and not to go for high level education. These local traditions were the same in many countries, even in Europe, some centuries ago. Well for the most part the Taliban's weapon of choice is theAK-47, some left by the Soviets during the Soviet-Afghan War. Some Soviet weapons were also provided by the US Government (By way of semi Soviet Friendly States like Egypt in secret at the time) and some insurgents were even known to use British Lee Enfeild Rifles that were nearly a century old, but that was before they got they're hands on the Soviets SVD-Dragunov Sniper Rifles). The Soviet RPG-7 is used as an anti-tank weapon, (as well as a few Stinger Rocket Launchers used for ant-air atacks very rarley now though, as they were provided by the US during the Soviet-Afghan War). RPK Machine Guns have also been found in Taliban hideouts. However more recently, newer versions of these soviet weapons (or cheap clone copies of them) have been smuggled in from Iran. Chinese-Soviet clone assault rifles have also been found in the hands of the Taliban. But basically...what they're using for the most part is any old standard Soviet equipment that Eastern Bloc countries used. That and whatever improvised explosives they could make (but IED's are more commonly used in Iraq).
Hope that helps,
-Krys
Actually, they primarily use the akm-a steel pressing version; the ak-47 used a solid piece of steel for the body (lightens the weight by about 1 1/2 kilos), as well as the ak-74-a 5.45 mm derivative. Ever seen an ak with an orange magazine??? There's your ak-74)) Also, don't forget light machine guns like the RPK, DP-46, DPG and RPK-74))
I've seen 7.62x54 PK machine guns(and variants/clones/later models) in the hands of Taliban. Also, they use DShK heavy machine guns and other heavy Soviet heavy machine guns and anti-aircraft guns.

How does the taliban effect the people in Afghanistan?
The problem with the Taliban is they hold a very extreme view of Islam, and they try to impose it on everyone, even those who might not share that view. For example, Islam does NOT say women cannot study, nor does it say women cannot go to school. But the Taliban are opposed to women going to school, and have burned down schools and even attacked female students. Further, the Taliban have expressed their opposition to popular music, and do not want any kind of popular culture (including television programs) to be broadcast; they believe only religious studies are permitted. Some Afghans, fed up with corrupt local governments, at first supported the Taliban, because people believed the Taliban would be honest, since they were very religious. But the Taliban proved to be eager to hold on to power, and willing to kill those who opposed them.
Are the taliban sunni Muslims?
Answer:
The Taliban do adhere to the fundamental principles of Islam, so they are, technically, Muslims. They do not violate any principle belief, or religious practice.
HOWEVER . . . . they are not properly educated in Islam, and they are very reactionary. They clearly do not understand that a lot of what they are doing is simply wrong, in Islam. That's why they do incorrect things - like attack girls' schools, etc.
