What part of being a doctor is your least favorite?
The part I don't like about being a doctor is not having enough time to give as much service as I would like. We have to plan our day, and I leave enough time to see my patients, give a treatment, and (hopefully) jot a note so I know what I did and remember my observations for next time. We have to see enough patients to keep our doors open, and insurance is getting closer and closer to giving charity. I see one pt per half hour. A few things get in the way:
1) Patients being late- that creates a domino effect, affecting all the other patients
2) Patients wanting a laundry list of problems addressed at once- not always possible
3) Patients wanting to chitchat about non-relevant issues

Why did the Australian community need the Royal Flying Doctor Service?
The Australian community is in fact a very tightly packed community with the vast majority of Australians living an urban life. However outback Australia is a different situation where vasts areas of land are administered by few people that live many hours drive from hospitals and even access to a general practitioner. This put the lives of the people that were required to live in the outback of Australia at risk should anything go wrong with their health or in the case of accidents. The best way to cover the great distances that are a part of the Australian outback is the aeroplane. Naturally a service was put into place by these communities to look after their health.

John Flynn was the one with the vision for the medical service that would later become the RFDS, that could reach the isolated communities of the outback. He was first posted as a Presbyterian minister at Beltana, a remote settlement hundreds of kilometres north of Adelaide, South Australia. He experienced great difficulties reaching such a widely scattered population, so he was appointed as the first Superintendent of the Australian Inland Mission, the 'bush department' of the Presbyterian Church, in 1912. Flynn served in the AIM during a time when just two doctors served an area of 300,000 sq kms in Western Australia and 1,500,000 sq kms in the Northern Territory. Flynn realised there needed to be better medical care for the people of the outback, so he established numerous bush hospitals and hostels. One particular story caught his attention: that of a young stockman named Jim Darcy. Darcy was injured when he fell off his horse, and although considerable assistance was rendered to him via telegraph, by the time the doctor physically reached him, he had died.
By 1917, Flynn saw that new technology such as radio and the aeroplane could help provide a more effective medical service. His inquiries caused him to be contacted by an Australian pilot serving in World War I, Clifford Peel, who outlined the capabilities and costs of then-available planes. An excellent fundraiser, Flynn turned his talents to the task of establishing a flying medical service. On 15 May 1928, the Aerial Medical Service was established at Cloncurry, in western Queensland.
