The three colours probably represent these: red = the blood of their civilians killed in war and colonialism; green = their hopefully bright future and the environment; yellow = the rising sun of hope for the nation. But these three colours were adopted from the national flag of Ethiopia, because Ethiopia was one of only two countries not under the influence of foreign powers during the Scramble for Africa, and because it is one of the most African countries, having one of the longest recorded histories and being the most likely birthplace of humanity.

The design and specifications for the flag were standardized in 1953.

An American flag was placed in the North Pole by Robert Peary, in 1909. Along the way he also left pieces of another flag. He is the only person to be honored for cutting the American flag.

Because in the eyes of Mississippians, that flag represents heritage and an important piece of their state's history that they are proud of.

The Rebel flag should not fly because it is offensive to African Americans. Many terrorist groups liked to fly the flag, such as the Ku Klux Klan. The Rebel Flag belongs in a museum, not in a place of honor.

NO ONE has the right to tell anyone else what they can or can not fly. As American Citizens we have the right to free speech and expression. As long as that right does not "PHYSICALLY" hurt anyone. Flying a flag that identifies you with your cultural history doesn't hurt anyone. Heck, most African Americans when asked what country they come from say Africa!........That's a continent....not a country!For a very long time before the Civil War that Dixie flag was flown. Its part of the identity and culture of many proud people. And regardless of whether you like it or nor being an American citizen gives them the right to believe that slavery is right, as long as they do not act upon those feelings and break the law. That's the problem with you nutty liberals. You believe you have the right to take everyone else's rights away. Hipocricy at its finest!

im sorry but i don't agree.im southern and i was taught that the CONFEDERATEFLAG is to remember our history in the south...Yankees just don't understand.true it was flying during the slave days,but it was flying before.that doesnt mean its a sign of hate.i mean...the American flag was flayin the same time.but its not racist?i own 4 rebel flags,but i ain't racist.some people might use it that way.but not everyone.so open up you history books.the south had their own constitution called the confederate constitution and with it they needed a flag.hence the CONFEDERATE FLAG.not the racist flag.

You should show respect for your country's flag because it is your country's highest and most recognizable symbol, and the way you treat it is representative of your attitude towards your country. Obviously is you have no respect for your country, traditions, culture and history, you have no reason to show any special respect for your flag over any other piece of cloth, but if you have respect for your country, treating the flag appropriately is a manifestation of that. Flag etiquette varies somewhat from country to country, but the basics are that the flag should not touch the ground, should be kept in good repair, flown the right way up, and flown at the same height as all other national flags.

In "The Lone Star Flag of Texas", an article which appeared in the September 1948 issue of Frontier Times, author Adina de Zavala suggests a meaning for each point of the star. According to the article, the five points of the star represent the characteristics of a good citizen, which are fortitude, loyalty, righteousness, prudence, and broadmindedness. CO2 = Carbon Dioxide. This is the gas that plants breath is part of make-up of the atmosphere. This is why it is important to replace the trees when they are cut down. Also humans exhale this gas. Plants give off oxygen.

CO2 is also a long-lived greenhouse gas produced when fossil fuels such as oil and coal are burned. The build up of CO2 in Earth's atmosphere would cause an increase in the Earth's surface temperature.
